ABOUT THE ROLE
A materials/shipping assistant supports the Materials Manager/Shipping Supervisor by overseeing daily operations such as inventory control, purchasing, and receiving, while also ensuring materials are available for production. Key responsibilities include tracking inventory, coordinating with suppliers, assisting warehouse logistics, back up supervisor in Shipping, maintaining records, internal auditor, and implementing process improvements to control costs and ensure efficiency. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills to support the flow of materials from procurement to final delivery.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
+ **Inventory Management:** o Conduct cycle counts and physical inventories to ensure accuracy and maintain defined inventory levels. o Monitor inventory movement, usage, and location within the warehouse. o Implement and maintain inventory control systems, including the establishment of database parameters for software like MRP (Material Requirements Planning).
+ **Procurement and Supplier Management:** o Assist in initiating purchase orders to ensure materials are available. o Monitor and measure supplier performance to ensure quality and on-time delivery. o Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
+ **Logistics and Operations Support:** o Coordinate inbound receipts and outbound shipments. o Assist in managing material flow within the warehouse and optimizing warehouse layout. o Support shipping and receiving activities, including scanning, labeling, and loading.
+ **Data Management and Reporting:**
+ o Compile and retrieve data for reports on inventory, purchases, and othermaterials activities. o Maintain accurate and organized records of material movement,procurement, and inventory.
+ **Team Supervision and Development:** o Supervise and provide guidance to materials handling staff. o Assist with training personnel on procedures and systems.
+ **Continuous Improvement:** o Identify and implement improvements to materials management processes. o Support cost reduction initiatives to minimize waste and optimize efficiency.
+ **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** o Collaborate closely with purchasing, production, engineering, and quality control teams to meet customer and production requirements. o Act as a liaison to resolve issues and ensure seamless operations.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• High School Diploma/ Associates Degree
• 3-10 years broad manufacturing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• 3 years Continuous Improvement experience
• 3-5 years Inventory Management Experience in Receiving & Shipping
• 5-7 years Procurement & Data/Reports Management
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Work in changing temperature environment (hot or cold)
• Able to work with PPE requirements
