Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
The TPS will interface along with the current control room teams, Director, Audio, Graphics, TD, and Production to provide coordinated technical support across all critical areas of the core control room positions. In addition, this person will laisse with the department managers to help maintain and streamline communication across our departments as it affects CNBC live-to-air, pre-production, remote events, and remote programming.
Responsibilities
+ Act as the first point of contact for control room and studio technical issues. Communicate with Newsroom Systems Engineers, Real-Time Graphics, Soft-ops, and Transmission on solutions and workarounds during live programming.
+ Manage prompter and return changeovers for all talent. This includes routing internally in EC and externally to the NYSE, Nasdaq, and reporter at-home studios.
+ Ensure quality control of all remotes. Adjust frame syncs throughout the show to match framing, video, and audio levels to CNBC’s standard.
+ Coordinate multi-camera anchor remotes with Transmission and Production Managers.
+ Handle the check-in process from start to finish of all Zoom guests.
+ Manage the show’s RS layout and IFB/PL designations for remotes. Route to RSs throughout the show and routing AUX panels for Ingest records.
+ Coordinate with the NOC any of the show’s requests to kill breaks and promos. Document why the editorial killed breaks and send a report to NOC Master Control, NOC Operations Supervisors, and CNBC editorial management.
+ Identify potential technical issues in the show’s rundown and communicate those issues to the editorial team. This includes communicating potential resource conflicts and incorrect OMS booking windows.
+ Construct a remote shot sheet communicating all routing and RS/IFB/PL information to technical, production, and transmission personnel.
+ Update and communicate IFB/Mic/REM/RS changes and additions to Director, TD, Audio, and Ingest.
+ Provide the control room with information regarding breaking news and work closely with Media Acquisition to ensure all essential sources are routed into the control room.
+ Coordinate pre and post-tapes with Ingest, Audio, TD, and Director.
+ Document technical issues throughout the show and communicate those issues in a TPS Report.
+ Zoom/Skype coordination and computer farm resources include sandbox usage.
Qualifications
+ 2+ years of work experience in technical operations within a live television environment
+ Hands-on experience with essential operation and configuration of transmission facility hardware such as satellite receivers, antennas, IP/ASI encoders and decoders, and video plant router control panels
+ Working knowledge of compression formats such as MPEG and JPEG-2000 over ASI and IP.
+ Working knowledge of CNBC Bureau setups: Audio- RP1, Mix Plus
+ Working knowledge of digital forms of standard and high-definition video, audio, and ancillary data.
+ Knowledge of ScheduAll, Crystal Remote Control Software, LiveU technology/LU-Central web portal, and Miranda iControl software
+ Operational knowledge of fiber, satellite, and IP vendors and systems
+ Prior experience booking satellite, fiber, and studios a plus
+ Prior field experience a plus
+ Experience with remote-driven live programming a plus
+ Customer-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Desired Characteristics
+ Self-managing individual, capable of meeting deadlines, willing to learn new technologies, possessing excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision when applicable.
+ Must be flexible with assigned shifts and breaking news coverage
+ Strong organizational and documenting skills
Additional Information
This position is required to be performed full-time from a Versant-designated worksite.
Salary: $109,200 ($60/hr) - $127,400 ($70/hr)
