Description
The primary function of this position is to support the daily operations of the seafood department, ensuring the efficient handling, processing, packaging, and distribution of seafood products. This role involves maintaining product quality, food safety standards, and inventory accuracy while assisting with logistical and administrative tasks to keep the seafood operation running smoothly.
The Seafood Operations Assistant must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations & Production:
+ Develop an in-depth understanding of the seafood business through training to include operations, seafood knowledge, purchasing and sales.
+ Learn fish yields and how they affect pricing and accuracy.
+ Help assist Director of Seafood Operations and Seafood Operations Supervisor in daily tasks associated with sales and production.
+ Review production reports throughout the day to ensure all orders will be handled properly, there are no shorts and case counts are accurate.
+ Understanding the seafood production report, item codes, customer product specs and large customer orders sent in via email.
+ Communicating information via “Daily Information Sheets” to production team regarding details about specific customer orders.
+ Requesting photos of customer products from production team.
+ Handling tasks in an efficiently and reporting back information in a timely manner as requested.
Inventory & Logistics:
+ Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory counts and reconciliation.
+ Help coordinate daily orders, deliveries, and dispatch schedules.
+ Communicate with vendors, drivers, and other departments to resolve delivery or product discrepancies.
Administrative Support:
+ Assist with order entry, purchasing, customer prospecting and updating inventory management systems.
+ Prepare daily and weekly operational reports as required.
+ Support the Director of Seafood Operations in process improvement and efficiency initiatives.
+ Must complete any additional tasks/duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education/Training
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Preferred minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in seafood handling, food production, warehouse operations or similar role.
+ Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP). If not, the candidate hired for the position will become HAACP certified.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
+ Strong attention to detail, resourceful, ability to multitask and adapt to order changes as they occur and perform under time constraints.
+ Effectively communicates information.
+ Ability to establish a daily routine to help establish a consistent work pattern.
+ Experience with seafood is a plus, but not necessary
+ Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Word, inventory systems, or ERP software).
+ Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
+ An ideal candidate will be self-motivated, efficient, detail oriented and handle tasks in a timely manner
Please note this position is in office 5 days a week. The candidate may be required to enter our warehouse refrigerated seafood production room as needed.
