What We Offer
Novant Health is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Database Solutions Architect to support and drive internal database initiatives. This role will serve as a strategic liaison between Novant Health and external database solution vendors, facilitating project execution and ensuring alignment with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday - Friday (On call support required, as needed).
Department: Core Clinical Applications & Operational Support
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead and support database efforts across Novant Health, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technical standards.
+ Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement and optimize database solutions.
+ Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud and on-premise database systems.
+ Assist in data ingestion processes, ensuring appropriate use of database technologies.
+ Analyze operations, applications, and programming needs to determine structural database requirements.
+ Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance database architectures.
+ Define physical structures, functional capabilities, security protocols, backup, and recovery specifications.
+ Partner with DPS teams to establish governance best practices and support database-related initiatives.
+ Participate in Novant Health’s Architecture Review Boards to ensure architectural consistency and innovation.
+ Translate business requirements into architectural models that support large-scale, high-performance operations.
+ Build and maintain cloud-based and on-premise databases in collaboration with business and DPS partners.
+ Evaluate current systems and recommend improvements for data analytics and operational efficiency.
+ Uphold security principles including least privilege and least functionality across all database systems.
+ Recognize and respond to cybersecurity incidents in alignment with organizational protocols.
Ideal Candidate:
+ Proven experience in database architecture, design, and implementation.
+ Strong understanding of cloud database platforms and on-premise solutions.
+ Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions.
+ Familiarity with data governance, security principles, and incident response.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
Qualifications
+ Education: High School or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
+ Experience: Minimum seven years RDBMS, working knowledge of document-based and graph databases and cloud data structures, required.
+ Licensure/Certification: CIIP to be obtained within 1 year of employment, required.
+ Additional Skills (required): Ability to work under deadlines and heavy workloads. Capable of handling multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Must have strong conceptual, communications, and technical skills. Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed. Implemented a Database project from start to finish with over 1+TB of data. Able to design, implement and explain real time vs batch database solutions.
+ Additional Skills (preferred): Three years’ experience with Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Cosmos or other document based DB, Azure Data Lake, Azure DataBricks, and Azure HDInsights.
