Farmingdale State College seeks two tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Computer Systems Department to support approximately 800 students enrolled in two bachelor's degree programs: Computer Science and Computer Programming and Information Systems (IT). Qualifications required of all applicants include a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a closely related discipline, a strong commitment to teaching, and a research agenda. Consideration will be given to candidates in all areas of expertise relating to computing, but the department has a specific interest in applicants with experience using or building AI systems. The normal teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester. The ability to work in a collegial and collaborative work environment is essential.
All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications, which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. We are also interested in candidates with a history of, or interest in, pursuing external funding for their research. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. The service component of the workload includes student advising and participation on committees.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the doctorate is conferred by the time of appointment.
+ Demonstrated experience in teaching or as a TA in computing related courses at the college or university level.
+ A strong commitment to teaching.
+ A clear research agenda.
+ Excellent communications skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Significant experience with AI, either as a research topic or in the application of AI to instruction.
+ An established record of scholarship in the discipline.
+ Experience with multiple high level programming languages.
+ Experience as a college level instructor of record for one or more college courses in the discipline.
+ Excellent teaching record, with evidence of innovative and effective teaching practices.
+ Experience with curriculum development and course design.
+ Knowledge and experience with the ABET Computer Science accreditation process.
Additional Information:
This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.
+ For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 23, 2025, and ending Saturday, November 1, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
+ CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Sunday, December 21, 2025
+ SALARY: $85,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $89,000 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with qualifications and experience.
+ ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall 2026
