The Role

We are seeking a **Research Technician- Vehicle** to support an electronics-based research and development lab. This role involves planning, developing, and assembling vehicle and equipment test setups, as well as evaluating test results. The technician will investigate mechanical and electrical operational issues in products and components and recommend effective corrective actions to improve performance and reliability. Research Technicians at our Warren facility focus on vehicle integration, test validation, development, and instrumentation. Selected candidates will perform with a high level of technical expertise. Assignments will vary based on the responsibilities of the development team.

We are seeking technicians experienced in complete vehicle repair and maintenance responsible for preserving current service procedures and practices. Your background in vehicle diagnostic procedures (according to SI) and experience in performing diagnostic test to verify sound repairs is required. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization will aid in your success.

What You’ll Do

+ Apply electronics theory and principles of operation of electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical systems and sub-systems for research vehicle builds

+ Troubleshoot circuits, sensors, transducers, motors, actuators, etc., commonly used in laboratory environment

+ Read and understand technical data, electrical diagrams, and schematics, as well as design and fabricate unique test instrumentation for use in research laboratory environment

+ Create research vehicle builds and manufacture wiring harnesses, build custom test fixture boxes, Utilize 3D Printing for hardware mounts

+ Utilize vehicle software test equipment for diagnostics, troubleshooting, automated testing, data logging, etc.

+ Operate general machine shop and material fabrication tools following all safe operating procedures.

+ Complete assignments according to work requests, on-time, with high quality

+ Adhere to all GM safety standards

+ Create accurate, complete documentation associated with task execution

+ Perform physical tasks common to the position

+ Assist with problem solving and creation of task instructions as requested

+ Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

+ Associate degree in electronics / instrumentation / automotive field, electronics technology, engineering technology and/or 3+ years of relevant work experience in a research laboratory test environment or as an instrumentation service technician

+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across diverse teams

+ Commitment to safe operating practices and fostering a safety-focused work environment

+ Initiative to stay abreast of new technologies and competitive products

+ Demonstrated ability to use data driven problem solving techniques in the fast- changing test environment

+ Ability to travel occasionally to support R&D facilities in either Milford, MI or Pontiac, MI to support temporary leaves, project or testing workload, or to provide technician expertise

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

+ Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of relevant work experience

+ Vehicle software specific tools e.g. neoVI Fire 2, VSpy3, Vehicle Verification Tool, DPS

+ Familiar with Arduino development environment (IDE), utilizing Python or C+\#LI-LG2
