Pay Rate: $48.27
POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of the Yoga Instructor is to teach group and private yoga sessions to individuals with a history of cardiovascular events while going through their Cardiac Rehabilitation program. The instructor must be mindful of all class participants, acknowledging various fitness and skill levels, as well as medical conditions; the ability to tailor the class in an appropriate manner. The goal of the Yoga sessions is to provide a compassionate practice, using physical movement and relaxation techniques to help participants manage and sustain their own sense of well-being, strength and stability. The yoga therapist role also includes instructing a series of healthy mind-set workshops and charting in patient’s medical records.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
1. RYT 500 or higher certification from an accredited Yoga training school.
2. Current certification by a recognized national organization required.
3. Yoga Therapy certification through IAYT preferred.
4. Two years minimum yoga teaching experience.
5. CPR/AED certification required
6. Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates Pritikin best practices implementation and continuous program improvement.
2. Provides expert education/counseling to patients and their families in both individual and group sessions.
3. Conducts Pritikin Healthy Mindset workshops, Serves as “yoga therapist” for the program. Supports the use of Pritikin educational materials and determines additional resources that might be needed to meet patient needs. Along with all team members, is available to program participants and staff on the ICR floor to interact, educate and assist patients in achieving health goals.
4. Exhibit aptitude in the yoga philosophy of healing, ethics, techniques, methods and practices as they apply to yoga.
5. Prior experience teaching yoga to populations with special medical conditions.
6. Ability to lead group classes and adapt to all levels.
7. Must be customer service oriented and possess good communication skills and enthusiasm.
8. Ability to communicate with other team members.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
2. Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Health System through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values.
3. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standards of conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.
4. Supports and conducts one’s self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
