    Receiving Chemist I** **Summary - Pay $24.00 hr

     

    The **Receiving Chemist I** is responsible for receiving, sampling, coding, consolidating, and shipping hazardous waste materials in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role ensures accurate documentation, safe handling, and efficient inventory management while maintaining a clean and compliant facility environment.

    Responsibilities

    + **Receive and Sample Materials** – Open, sample, and analyze incoming drums and lab packs according to the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP) and CHES protocols. Document all results and ensure QA/QC compliance.

    + **Code and Process Waste** – Accurately code all incoming materials for disposal, routing, and billing using the WIN system and CHES barcoding standards.

    + **Manage Inventory and Supplies** – Monitor supply levels and cylinder inventory, verify inbound shipments, and maintain organized storage areas.

    + **Coordinate and Execute Shipments** – Stage and ship waste materials to approved disposal outlets while managing inbound and outbound loads per DOT regulations and least-cost routing protocols in coordination with National Logistics.

    + **Consolidate and Repack Chemicals** – Perform consolidation, repackaging, and bulking of lab pack materials (including reactive substances) with proper documentation and safe handling.

    + **Operate Lab and Facility Equipment** – Calibrate and operate lab instruments for basic analysis. Safely move drums and containers using forklifts, yard mules, or other equipment.

    + **Ensure Safety and Compliance** – Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company Health & Safety standards.

    + **Other Duties as Assigned** – Perform additional responsibilities as required to support facility operations.

    Qualifications

    + **Education & Experience**

    + **Required:** Two years of college or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field

    + **Experience:** 0–3 years of relevant experience in hazardous waste handling, chemical analysis, or related field

    + **Certifications & Training**

    + 24-hour OSHA Training

    + Forklift Training

    + RCRA / DOT Training

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Strong teamwork and communication skills

    + Ability to adapt to changing business needs and take direction

    + Solid understanding of chemistry, math, and chemical testing procedures

    + Organizational skills and initiative in task completion

    + Proficiency in Windows-based applications

    + Knowledge of facility-specific Waste Analysis Plan (WAP)

    + Demonstrated understanding of at least two of the following areas before progression:

    + Lab Pack Coding/Processing

    + Drum Receiving/Coding

    + Shipping of Waste Materials

    Physical Requirements

    + Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)

    + Frequent climbing, reaching, and handling of materials

    + Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment

    + Must have correctable 20/20 vision and full color perception

    + Occasional exposure to loud environments and respirator use as required

    + **Work Level:** _Medium Work_ – frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, occasional up to 50 lbs; standing 4–6 hours per shift.

The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this role. Final compensation may vary based on factors such as location, experience, skills, and business needs. In addition to the base salary, some roles may be eligible for bonus or incentive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
