General Statement
University Student Housing (https://www.montana.edu/housing/) manages the 11 residence halls and 600 apartment units that are the home of 5800 residents/tenants and families while they attend MSU . The Residence Life Custodial Team provides cleaning and maintenance services in and around the residence halls and associated areas. The primary emphasis is on cleaning the public areas which include restrooms, carpeted and hard-surface floor care, trash removal, room set-ups and other related duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor II, the Custodial Supervisor I team manages the daily custodial and light maintenance activities of each residential community. The two Custodial Supervisor Is collaborate in their duties to provide a clean and safe environment for all residents and visitors. Each supervisor will be assigned 5 or 6 communities. Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Supervises the crews in their assigned communities (hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, evaluating, payroll functions, etc):
+ Full time crew of 3 Custodian IIs and up to 25 Custodian Is
+ Weekend Student Custodians (up to 15) during the academic year
+ 30+ temporary employees including both student and short term workers during the summer conferencing season
+ Ensures excellent customer service to building patrons and occupants.
+ Ensures staff are meeting quality standards through regular inspections.
+ Manages the equipment, chemical, and supply inventories
+ Conducts regular inventory counts and evaluates inventory levels to determine weekly supply orders.
+ Performs related ordering duties .
+ Monitors and requests maintenance as needed for machinery and equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
+ Ensures effective implementation of pest control protocols and preventative measures.
+ Ensures safety and security of building patrons and staff.
+ Performs cleaning duties as needed in order to maintain all areas.
+ Performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the department.
+ Oversees Custodian II reporting.
+ Conducts regular staff meetings providing recaps to the management team.
+ Provides daily operational reports to the management team.
+ And actively participates as part of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Experience supervising custodial and/or light maintenance activities in commercial, institutional, high density housing, or similar settings or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
+ Experience training and supervising staff (both full time and part-time/temporary staff).
+ Proficient experience working with a variety of software applications.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures utilized in a custodial position.
+ Extensive customer service experience dealing effectively and diplomatically with a variety of people.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Certifications/Classes related to custodial, sanitation, building maintenance etc.
+ Experience enforcing building and security regulations.
+ Experience with inventory control.

+ Must currently possess, or be eligible to obtain, a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points). Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license. If the successful candidate possesses a valid out of state driver’s license, candidate must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days.
+ Occasionally work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands.
+ Will occasionally be in an after hours response status for immediate situations as needed.
+ Occasionally work outside and in inclement weather.
Physical Demands

+ Required to wear safety gear as needed.
+ Regular exposure to cleaning solutions.
+ Routinely transport and place items weighing up to 50+ lbs, and occasionally up to 100lbs.
+ Move about or traverse grounds and facilities for long periods of time.
+ Occasionally perform cleaning duties; grip handles on cleaning equipment; ascend/descend stairs and step ladders; and be comfortable working at heights.
