    Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) brings together American Express' merchant-and network related businesses to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all our mutual customers. The organization manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accepts American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally.

     

    GMNS is looking for a Director of Privacy to lead a diverse team of high-performing professionals focused on ensuring control management is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.

    The Director, Privacy Risk will:

    + Provide strategic privacy risk advice to business process owners across U.S. and international GMNS business functions

    + Facilitate risk awareness and education within business teams to enhance their ability to manage privacy risk effectively and to comply with enterprise policies and programs pertaining to privacy risk

    + Advise on integration of privacy risk into broader Operational Risk Management (ORM) policies and programs

    + Support with design and dissemination of targeted training and awareness programs to increase BU understanding and management of specific privacy risk topics

    + Consult on the design and implementation of BU controls tailored to privacy risk

    + Share privacy risk knowledge with BU process owners to enable BU to strengthen and embed relevant ORM considerations into processes

    + Advise on privacy risk strategies and procedures to align with changes in the business environment and regulatory landscape

    + Be a key leader for sharing insights, better practices, themes, etc. across the business unit specific to privacy risk

    Required Qualifications:

    + 6 Years Privacy risk management experience required

    + Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts

    + Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards

    + Experience within financial services industry

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively

    + Demonstrated history and ability to manage large teams, spread over geographies and with varying backgrounds

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous

    + Experience in at least one of the following:

    1. Serving as the go-to subject matter expert pertaining to specific operational risk types

    2. Ensuring activities are in alignment with standards set by specialist risk-stripe teams

    3. Complying with enterprise policies and programs pertaining to specific risk types and supporting with design/enhancement of procedures/standards by providing topic-specific insight

    4. Advising on decentralized risk types into broader operational risk policies and programs

    Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    + Privacy Practices:

    1. Governance framework: Sets the International privacy practices framework to be executed by 1st line Risk Experts, including the regulatory documentation data principles

    2. Training and Awareness: Proactively engages and partners with stakeholders across Compliance and the business to create learning and development programs and guidance material to support colleagues to understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to privacy

    3. Monitors the external regulatory and industry development to determine impacts to framework. Identifies potential gaps and best practice in the American Express data privacy framework and helps to develop implementable solutions that can be rolled out across International.

    + Audit Engagement: Supports the business in managing privacy audits. The incumbent will provide and recommend pre-audit submissions of self-identified findings, monitor all audit MAPs to ensure they are closed in a timely manner, participate in all audit meetings, and provide operational risk input into audit findings.

    + Documents and manages exceptions to the Privacy Procedures

    + Provides Privacy advice and guidance

    Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
