How will you make an impact in this role?
Global Compliance and Ethics (GCE) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust compliance program that ensures American Express is adhering to laws, regulations, and internal policies while fostering a culture of integrity and effective second line independent compliance oversight.
This Manager, within Global Compliance & Ethics, plays a central people leader role in driving capabilities initiatives for the Global Compliance Risk Management program. The successful candidate will work with functional teams to implement capabilities that enable their programs.
This role will lead a team responsible for delivering capabilities that enable identification, documentation, and remediation of compliance functions by:
* Evaluating and enhancing organizational processes by identifying, or by assessing the process for opportunities enabled through capabilities to reduce risks to acceptable levels, streamline operations and align with industry practice.
* Projecting confidence, credibility and authority in high-level discussions, enabling effective communication and influencing decisions.
* Shaping decisions and perspectives by persuading stakeholders, managing relationships and securing buy-in for initiatives.
* Making unbiased decisions and judgments, free from external pressures or conflicts of interest, showing integrity and objectivity.
* Displaying a mindset of questioning assumptions, critically assessing information and seeking evidence to validate conclusions, so decisions are unbiased and well-founded.
* Analyzing complex situations, identifies patterns and draws meaningful conclusions to perform logical and well-structured evaluations.
* Influencing and helping to embed a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization, encouraging proactive risk management behaviors at all levels.
Responsibilities:
* Designs, oversees, and substantively participates in enabling capabilities for risk governance structures, supporting clear accountability and decision-making frameworks that align with program objectives and regulatory requirements.
* Drive cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with key partners across Compliance, Operational Risk, Technology, and other functions to deliver integrated solutions.
* Oversee the workstream deployment and optimization of governance, risk and compliance (GRC), process, risk and control (PRC) schema, and related technologies to improve transparency, automation, and data-driven insights.
* Document use cases and requirements for the design and implementation of GenAI solutions for high-impact use cases such as user automation, regulatory change summarization, and risk data insights.
* Champion a strong risk-aware culture, promoting proactive risk identification, management, and escalation throughout the organization.
* Mentor and develop analysts, fostering an inclusive, innovative, and performance-driven environment.
* Identify and assess emerging risks and industry trends, leveraging insights to continuously improve compliance frameworks, tools, and processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in industrial engineering, computer science, data science, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Product Management, AI tools and frameworks, Compliance, Risk, Audit, or related field in financial services.
* Ability to effectively interpret technical/business objectives and articulate solutions
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with people at all levels of the organization.
* Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in evolving risk environments
* Superior, detail-oriented verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively influence and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
* Proven ability to map and document complex business processes using tools such as Visio
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization/reporting tools
* Experience in delivering high quality work products, reflecting attention to detail.
* Must be a self-starter flexible, innovative, and adaptive.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
