Summary About the Position: Operate tractor and heavy equipment, along with using hand and power operated garden tools in accomplishing trades and labor work. Responsibilities Work under a supervisor who issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines and relies upon the incumbent to ensure that work assignments are carried out by other members of the group. Serve as a working leader of 3 or more employees. Ensure that needed plans, materials and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Work along with other employees and sets the pace, performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that performed by the unit . Operate various heavy equipment. Load dump trucks with sand, gravel, earth or refuse. Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator Leader without more than normal supervision. Ability to lead and operate one or more types of heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials; Ability to use hand and power operated garden tools; Ability to communicate with other employees, such as relaying instructions from a Supervisor - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Ability To Lead or Supervise Leadership Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is fatiguing due to continuous action of eyes, arms, legs, feet and torso used in manipulating various levers, brakes, and peddles. Strains to arms, legs and especially the stomach area resulting from jerking, jolting and vibration of the equipment. Exposed to injuries resulting from vehicle upsets, falls getting on and off equipment and cuts, bruises, scratches from working. Lifts materials up to 45 pounds when loading and unloading seed and fertilizer. Frequent bending, standing, reaching, etc. Exposed to poisonous shrubs, ivy, burns, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outdoors and subject to frequently disagreeable weather (snow, heat, and rain) and jolting from vehicle. Subject to dust, dirt, grease, noise, exhaust fumes, cuts, bruises, mud, and flying objects from power equipment. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This position may require Shift work and/or Rotating shifts. This position may require you to wear Personal Protective Equipment and/or clothing. This is an AR3135 Bargaining Unit position.
