    Job Title: Environmental SpecialistJob Description

     

    We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Specialist to manage and oversee hazardous waste operations, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves training, manifest management, waste profiling, and coordination with multiple stakeholders to maintain environmental compliance and safety.

    Responsibilities

    + Oversee hazardous waste management, universal waste management, used oil management, PCB management, and hazardous materials management.

    + Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including waste management, profiling, reporting, and hazardous materials handling.

    + Conduct environmental audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.

    + Stay updated on evolving environmental regulations and proactively implement necessary changes.

    + Assess and mitigate environmental risks associated with company operations.

    + Provide training and guidance to employees on environmental best practices and safety protocols.

    + Oversee land environmental compliance support for generation and transmission facilities and infrastructure.

    + Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and minimize environmental impacts.

    Essential Skills

    + Working knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental compliance.

    + Strong project management skills.

    + Ability to provide environmental leadership within the organization.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, environmental management software, and data analysis tools.

    + Strong organizational and communication skills.

    + Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

    + 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance.

    + Experience with land environmental compliance regulations such as RCRA, CERCLA, Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste PCBs.

    + DOT hazardous materials training and certification preferred.

    + Professional certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, or OSHA 40-hour are a plus.

    + Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

    Work Environment

    The role is based at the corporate headquarters, with an 80/20 split between office and field work, including site and plant visits. The standard work week is 40 hours, with four days in the office and one flex day, typically Monday or Friday, from approximately 7 AM to 4 PM. There is a rotation for being on-call for spill lines, requiring availability to gather details, mobilize contractors, and notify relevant agencies as needed.

    This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, Alabama.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
