Nurse Specialist The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Nurse Specialist to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Nurse Specialist assesses a healthcare facility's nursing practice and its impact on patient outcomes. Moreover, the incumbent provides direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs, and acts as a change agent, mentor, and leader. An employee in this position ensures nursing staff sustain an established level of competency. Core Responsibilities + Performs medical tests in patients to diagnose their health condition. + Interprets laboratory test results of patients. + Recommends treatment plan for patients based on diagnosis. + Counsels individuals and patients on positive health practices. + Provides the latest cost-effective nursing practices. + Collaborates with other team of experts to outline best treatment for patients. + Performs holistic evaluation of specialty population, making use of enhanced proven techniques and procedures to achieve better results. + Implements the improvement of patient care, and healthcare policies and resources. + Mentors other healthcare professionals by functioning as a preceptor or coordinating preceptors for visiting professionals, students, new graduates, and orienteers. + Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations, and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops. + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Department Specific Functions + Provide nursing support for designated providers and assist in coordinating patient care across the team. + Facilitate communication between providers, patients, pharmacies, and other care partners to ensure continuity of care. + Process prescription refill requests, including both routine and complex cases requiring pharmacy coordination or dose confirmation. + Address pharmacy-related issues and patient questions regarding medication management. + Manage messages in the patient portal, including clinical inquiries, refill requests, seizure-related calls, and patient education. + Provide patient advice and follow-up after provider or nurse practitioner responses. + Conduct patient call-backs to confirm understanding of care plans and next steps. + Provide titration instructions and communicate changes in treatment as directed by providers. + Communicate lab results to providers and follow up with patients upon receipt of provider feedback. + Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record system. + Schedule and coordinate VNS and pre-surgical appointments. + Manage DMV form requests and assist with other required patient documentation. + Support pre-surgical planning and collaborate with the care team to prepare for procedures. + Ensure effective and timely communication with patients and clinic staff. + Prioritize and organize daily tasks to support efficient clinic operations. + Identify and escalate urgent or complex clinical concerns to the appropriate provider.
