Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
As a Lab Technician, you will support the Research & Development department by engaging in product formulation, testing, and ingredient research. Your role will involve conducting analyses, maintaining accurate documentation, supporting new product development, and ensuring efficient laboratory operations in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
+ Assist with product analysis, formulation, and ingredient research.
+ Conduct material sampling and manage new ingredient evaluations and approvals.
+ Test new products and ingredients in various formulations.
+ Investigate and recommend alternative ingredients to improve product performance and cost efficiency.
+ Scale up prototypes from bench to production level and monitor initial production runs.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and well-documented R&D laboratory environment.
+ Manage and update the ingredient and flavor libraries, ensuring records are current and accessible.
+ Create and assign new ingredient numbers and maintain data accuracy in the ERP and Nutritional Analysis and Formulation software.
+ Develop a thorough understanding of product lines, customer formulations, and ingredient functionalities.
+ Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining technical product information and resource documentation.
Essential Skills
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record keeping.
+ Solid experience in food flavor systems and formulation techniques.
+ Hands-on experience with formulation and nutrition analysis software such as Genesis or SKUsafe.
+ Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
+ Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Willingness to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as requested by management.
+ Must not be allergic to common allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and sesame).
+ Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related science, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
+ 1–3 years of experience in food manufacturing, nutritional supplements, or product development preferred.
+ Hands-on lab experience with formulation, testing, and sensory evaluation preferred.
Work Environment
The work is primarily conducted in a lab/test-kitchen environment. The ideal schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM or 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with initial training on an earlier schedule with the Lead Technologist. The environment may expose you to shop elements such as noise, dirt, dust, and odors, as well as allergens. Regular physical activities include walking, sitting, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, and reaching.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesterfield, Missouri.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
