Syensqo is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.Click here (https://www.eeoc.gov/sites/default/files/2023-06/22-088\_EEOC\_KnowYourRights6.12.pdf) to access the Know Your Rights poster.
Syensqo is all about chemistry. We’re not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet’s beauty for the generations to come.
We are looking for:
This position is located within the Analytical team of the Bristol Research & Innovation Centre, a multidisciplinary location which also hosts the application labs for the Syensqo Novecare business unit as well as the Syensqo Corporate Process Safety and Automation &; Robotics laboratories. The R&I Analytical team works alongside our colleagues in the market labs as well as our plants to develop innovative new products, provides guidance on appropriate regulatory challenges and assists our production plants upon analysis of samples for industrialization.
We count on you for:
+ One research thematic will focus on the development of MALDI for complex formulations: biomolecule analysis (biosurfactants or biopolymers such as guars, proteins, saponins, etc.) with an initial phase of bibliographic research, followed by extensive lab work to test conditions from the literature (varying matrices, salts, proportions, concentrations, deposition methods, etc.), with the possibility of doing TLC-MALDI.
+ A second research axis would focus on the study of liquid NMR sequences available in the Bruker catalog and their contribution to the characterization of complex formulations. Today, fewer than 10 sequences are used routinely for the 1D and 2D analysis of our formulations, while there are more than 200sequences in the Bruker library. The goal would be to investigate the value of these sequences and to develop those that could be useful for the characterization of Syensqo products. The optimization or even modification of sequences of interest can also be considered.
+ A third research axis would focus on extraction/separation techniques to establish protocols for simplifying complex samples or formulations. This may involve liquid/liquid extraction, LC separation followed by fraction collection for NMR and other analyses, or other methods (microwave extraction, TLC, …). Heretoo, extensive bibliographic research will be required to establish the most suitable research pathways.
You can count on us:
+ To carry out guided research where observation, independent deduction and directional input will be encouraged.
+ To support and train you on the lab work and safety associated with it
+ To give you the opportunity to interact with the different research teams in several scientific domains (e.g., microbiology, analytical, process safety,...)
+ To develop your scientific, project management skills and knowledge on methodology for polymerization and formulation of polymers for the coatings market.
You will bring:
+ In pursuit of of Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and Materials Science
+ The co-op is expected to have a working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software. A basic understanding of material balances, chemistry, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics is expected.
You will get:
+ Competitive salary
+ Industry experience
