The 1ES (One Engineering System) team serves as Microsoft's dedicated platform engineering organization, focused on empowering engineering teams across the company with best-in-class tools, platforms, and practices. As the Principal Group Product Manager, you will oversee two critical focus areas for Microsoft engineering - the migration and modernization of Microsoft’s engineering platform on GitHub; and the automation of DevSecOps practices within the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for Microsoft engineers. Both domains are critical to the Microsoft engineering platform and its mission to advance engineering productivity through automation and modernization.
In this role, you will lead a team of product managers, actively coaching and mentoring your team members to promote growth and excellence. You will foster an environment where every individual is empowered and encouraged to bring their best ideas and contributions to the table. As a leader, you will serve as a role model by exemplifying integrity, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
This role requires a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in engineering and security, responsible for shaping the future of Microsoft’s software development workflows and ensuring robust security across the codebase. You will drive transformational initiatives, foster innovation, and deliver operational excellence for both modernization and security.
Responsibilities
+ Define and implement the vision and strategy for migrating and modernizing Microsoft’s engineering practices on GitHub, ensuring seamless integration and adoption across global teams.Leverage insights gained from Microsoft’s own migration to GitHub as customer zero to help marketing and other teams develop impactful case studies that showcase success and drive industry adoption.
+ Lead the DevSecOps and code security team, driving the development and adoption of secure engineering practices and tools throughout the software lifecycle, continuously enhancing security measures to proactively address emerging threat vectors.
+ Mentor and guide product managers and engineers, promoting a culture of security, accountability, and continuous improvement.
+ Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product management, and executive leadership to drive alignment and deliver strategic outcomes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product management or engineering
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years people management experience.
+ 10+ years of experience in product management or engineering roles with a proven track record of leading complex, large-scale initiatives.
+ Hands-on engineering experience, including modern software development workflows, DevOps methodologies and an understanding of the challenges developers face.
+ Knowledge of secure development practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management.
+ Proven leadership experience building, coaching, and inspiring geographically distributed teams in both engineering and security domains.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 15+ years of experience in product management or engineering roles with a proven track record leading complex, large-scale initiatives.
+ Proven communication and stakeholder management abilities at all organizational levels.
+ Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on security and modernization.
+ Experience with large-scale engineering transformation, migrations, and change management.
+ Ability to drive innovation and transformation in highly dynamic, security-focused environments.
Product Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
