    Summary YOU WILL SERVE AS A SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER IN THE MRO PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT, PRODUCTION LINES DIVISION OF FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will conduct formal training and on the job training for the full range of Sheet Metal Mechanics duties on fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components. You will assign tasks to immediate workers, relay supervisor's instructions and provide guidance to workers on methods and procedures. You will evaluate the progress of workers in terms of such factors as interest, cooperation, assimilation of basic fundamentals and theory, and practical application of work methods. You will perform journeyman level tasks in areas such as aircraft lines, ground check, flight test and various component overhaul and repair shops. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Utilize skill and knowledge to lead others in the proper procedure to plan, layout methods of repair and determine depth of rework by conducting formal/informal or on-the-job training; 2) Develop training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrate proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the proper use of hand/power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; 4) Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) Troubleshoot systems, disassembling components/systems, and determining required repairs; 6) Perform complete structural check of aircraft; 7) Maintain training records and making recommendations for employee's training plan progress or additional training as appropriate; 8) Develop and revise lesson plans, developing and administering tests and maintaining progress charts; 9) May assign tasks to shop personnel in a training status and checks work in progress to ensure procedures, methods and practices are consistent with established policy and standards are met; 10) Perform production tasks of a journey level Sheet Metal Mechanic, when not engaged in training requirements. I am consulted by other employees in difficult situations.
