    Title: Animal Technician

     

    Contract to Hire

     

    Pay: $20-26/hour

     

    The Aquatic Animal Facility is looking to hire a full-time **Animal Technician** to take care of our animal colony. The technician will be responsible for the maintenance and performance of our aquatic system, animal feeding, monitoring of water parameters, and routine health checks. The technician will also work with students, provide training in animal husbandry, and help manage their schedules.

     

    We are seeking someone who is self-motivated and takes responsibility for the function of the facility and the health and wellbeing of our animals. The ability to work independently and an interest in aquatic animal care are required.

    Duties include:

    + Provide care for aquatic animals, including daily feeding, monitoring and control of water parameters, and maintenance of filtration systems

    + Organize, clean, and maintain animal spaces

    + Write, update, and revise standard operating procedures

    + Complete daily checklists and record keeping

    + Communicate and interact with facility users, including providing training, instruction, and guidance

    + Work with live aquatic animals

    + Comply with safety and infection control standards

    Requirements:

    + General background in animal care or research training preferred

    + High School Diploma is required

    + Must be self-motivated and able to work independently to perform required tasks and recognize operational problems

    + Good communication skills and fluency in English

    + Basic computer skills

    + Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position (e.g., repetitive motions, lifting 6-liter (12 lb.) tanks of water, extended periods of standing, walking, and sitting)
