License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia school librarian/media specialist certification required. Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.Education Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required. Specialist or doctorate degree in related field preferred.Experience Qualifications: Five years of professional library media experience required. Experience in a school library media setting preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of library media and instructional technology; ability to work successfully with colleagues; ability to conceptualize the supervision of the K-12 library media programs; expertise with digital resources; demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for developing, leading, supervising, and evaluating a comprehensive instructional program for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) library media centers.1. Provide leadership for school library media programs.a. Communicate library media program goals and develop a vision for local school library media programs and their support of the district's mission, vision, and goals.b. Coordinate the development of pilot programs and proposals for improvement of library media programs in utilization of library media technologies at the local school and district level.c. Provide support in the selection and ordering of periodicals and other print resources for school libraries.d. Collaborate with curriculum directors to support instructional initiatives and in selection of school-based resources.e. Stay current with emerging trends in library media profession.2. Develop and implement various instructional resources, programs, or events for the improvement and continuous support for library media programs.a. Facilitate best practices in collection development and the role of reading for new and existing schools while following the guidelines of the GCPS selection criteria.b. Provide leadership for school library collection development by facilitating best practices for fiction and nonfiction categorization.c. Supervise the processing services provided to local school for library media center, bookroom, parent center and other instructional materials located in these areas of the school.d. Oversee selection and purchase of library media materials for new schools.e. Work collaboratively with school librarians to implement local, state, and district library media standards.f. Coordinate the continuous revision process of library science curriculum.g. Support schools through the library media materials appeals process.3. Coordinate and provide professional learning opportunities for school librarians, instructional staff, and others as appropriate.a. Coordinate professional learning and on-boarding for school librarians and library media clerks who are new to the district and/or profession.b. Coordinate the mentoring program for new school librarians.c. Coordinate the placement and supervision of library media interns with higher education program managers.4. Provide leadership and support in the planning of new and renovated library media center facilities.a. Supervise plans for new library media centers, renovations, and remodels.b. Coordinate updates to library media centers involving new carpet, paint, furniture, shelving and circulation desks.c. Work with Business and Finance to update the bid list for library media furniture and shelving annually.5. Support library media program literacy and other instructional initiatives consistent with district mission, vision, and goals.a. Manage the development, implementation, and support of the information and media literacy standards in library media centers.b. Manage the scheduling, selection, purchasing, and maintenance of the GCPS Book Mobile program.c. Manage the logistics, scheduling, and planning of the GCPS Readers Rally event.6. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
