    Minimum qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

    + 8 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.

    + 8 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.

    + 8 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.

    + 3 years of experience in leading teams in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.

    Preferred qualifications:

    + 3 years of experience in working in a complex, matrixed organization including technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

     

    About the job

     

    Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

     

    As a Staff Security Engineer, you will help to ensure that our software and systems are designed and implemented to the highest security standards. You will perform technical security assessments, code reviews and vulnerability testing to highlight risk, helping Google teams and partners to improve security, and work on a wide variety of software designs and technology stacks.

     

    In this role, you will have the opportunity to help set the direction for product security in Google Cloud and partner with amazing existing teams across Google. These include existing Security teams, Privacy teams and Engineering teams. You will help set the focus, direction and impact of this organization with regards to product security. There is an exciting mix of work to be accomplished across multiple security domains.

    The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.     Responsibilities

    + Design secure protocols and systems for Google Cloud, focusing on proactive vulnerability management by surfacing vulnerability patterns and designing them out of the infrastructure.

    + Conduct in-depth vulnerability research and reproduction, utilizing techniques such as reverse engineering, fuzzing, and static analysis to find weaknesses in designs and implemented code.

    + Develop and review secure operational practices for the cloud environment, providing security guidance and support to Engineering and Operations teams.

    + Respond to vulnerabilities with immediate remediation, creating mitigations, hardening systems, and writing effective tests and fuzzers to ensure long-term defense.
