The goal of the Department of Plastic Surgery Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is to provide the fellow with meaningful and in-depth exposure to clinical, translational, and basic science research relevant to plastic surgery, oncologic reconstruction, microsurgery, regenerative medicine, and related disciplines. The fellow will gain experience in retrospective and prospective study design, institutional review board (IRB) protocol creation and submission, research data compliance, database design and management, statistical analysis, and other related techniques and skills.
Upon completion of the one- or two-year curriculum, the successful fellow will not only possess an expert understanding of the research process and its requirements, but will also have completed multiple projects, resulting in national and international presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
*LEARNING OBJECTIVES*
Goal 1: Clinically appraise research and formulate research questions. Trainee will participate in formal training in biostatistics and research protocol formulation.
Goal 2: Understand the process of formulating clinical trials. Trainee will organize and participate in research meetings.
Goal 3: In depth understanding of biostatistics and data collection and analysis as it relates to clinical research and surgery. Trainee will be involved and mentored in clinical and translational research. Gain experience in data collection and analysis for clinical research projects as well as in the preparation of research manuscripts for publication.
*ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS*
Candidate must have been awarded a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D., MBChB, D.V.M.) in an appropriate field within the past three years.
