Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: Machine Operator I
_12 Hour schedule, 7a-7p, Work 4 days and then off 4 day._
Job Summary:
_Primary Purpose_
Responsible for the safe & quality operation and proficient understanding of downstream equipment and machinery including; palletizers, strapping machines, wrapping machines, forklifts, grinding machines, unscramblers and overall flow of product. Operation of downstream equipment involves performing short-cycle, repetitive, and control functions in set patterns to attain high-quality production output that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions
1. Follows all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and as trained during the various safety-related training programs. Understands and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and managers/supervisors. Properly uses all personal protective equipment.
2. Before your shift begins, coordinate issues as to who is running which bulk? Who will go to the rework area? Who will take first break, etc.?
3. Must be able to quickly grasp operation of downstream equipment and possess trouble-shooting ability.
4. Ensure the downstream equipment is always in good and safe condition and maintained clean.
5. Knows and practices safe and proper start-up and shutdown procedures for each machine.
6. Report and Maintains standard production objectives through proper machine operation and record hourly visuals.
7. Performs adjustments to machinery involving hand movements and simple hand tools to ensure smooth, continued machine operation and during changeovers.
8. Has authority to stop machines/production to communicate machine problems and breakdowns to lead.
9. Inspects product for quality defects. Has authority to stop production due to quality issues.
10. Maintains housekeeping of all assigned areas. This includes applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals and continuous improvement.

13. Complete all required downstream paperwork (rework, bulk downtime, non-conforming sheets, etc.) and hand in at the end of the shift.
14. Effectively run the machines and ensure it has enough raw materials.
15. Show understanding of the recycling procedures.
16. Report any mechanical issues to the Maintenance Technician. Track down any defects and reporting them to the QA Technician.
17. Become an active member of the downstream conversion team.
18. Assist as needed in training new operators.
19. Performs other related duties as directed by the shift lead or site manager.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the shift supervisor and is also directed by the shift lead.
Job Specifications and Requirements:
Education and Experience
Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Level of Authority & Authorization
• Those employees with authorized training, have the ability to shut down / stop equipment if continued operation is a threat to any employee’s health and safety
• Stop production for unacceptable quality or food safety concerns.
• Quarantine out-of-specification products, materials or supplies.
• Authority to make process adjustments.

Other Requirements:
Ability to recognize and understand numbers and values and enters this information into an on-line database accurately. A strong mathematical ability is essential.
Ability to visually distinguish visual defects.
Proficient hand/eye coordination to operate equipment.
Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on the situation at hand.
Ability to assist in new operator training when needed.
Ability to efficiently and effectively use a computer and related software.
Ability to read and write in English.
Ability to work all shifts and required overtime.

The above requirements and training are not limited to the above and could be one or more depending on job assignment. Requirements may include all other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently.
• Required to stand/walk for up to 12 hours per shift on a concrete floor and is frequently required to do the following; carry up to 50lbs.
• Bend, squat, kneel.
• Must be able to climb steps and ladders frequently.
• Reach overhead and outward with frequency.
