Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP)
As a cornerstone of the Pueblo community for over a century, Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a leading employer, provider of quality mental health services, and a community partner. CMHHIP is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that is intended to provide a safe, secure, and therapeutic setting for patients with both psychiatric and medical issues. The services provided include evaluation and treatment for patients who are severely mentally ill, and the goal of this facility is to return patients to their optimal level of functioning and assist them in returning to the community as appropriate.
This position exists to provide skilled, intensive psychiatric treatment services to patients with mental illnesses with mixed diagnoses, who need
crisis intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation. This unit develops and implements therapy techniques and practices utilizing
known and established theoretical concepts for the adolescent, geriatric, and adult psychiatric populations that are
appropriate to the individual patients’ level of functioning. Such therapeutic services are designed to facilitate
psychological, physical, social, cognitive, leisure, and daily living skills through a comprehensive rehabilitative, leisure
education, and experiential participation model while meeting standards of practice as well as regulatory compliance with
JCAHO, CMS and CMHHIP policy and procedure.

This position is full time on-site, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About the Position:
The Clinical Therapist III coordinates with a multidisciplinary treatment team to design services that address the patients’ Plan Of Care and align with the population, treatment program model, Recovery philosophy, and Trauma Informed Care. Services include assessments that formulate individual patient goals, interventions to meet patient needs that foster choices, progress, and function, document and record pertinent data related to patient progress, services, safety, quality, and statistical data within the organization. Duties in this position include:
Assessments and Plan of Care:
+ Performs Therapy assessments by gathering information, interviewing patients, and making treatment recommendations in the functional modality areas of physical, social, leisure, cognitive, psychological, and daily living needs and skills
+ Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in developing the patient Treatment Plan formulation and Reviews to help formulate long-and short-range goals
Advanced Practice Program Design:
+ Designs the Therapy services plan for the assigned population to include modalities of leisure education, physical, cognitive, social, psychological, and daily living skills designed to foster independent and leisure choices and functioning in patient participation
+ Ensure proper protocols, staffing, safety, and equipment needed to maximize group outcomes
Implementation of Services:
+ Implements a needs specific Therapy service delivery program by conducting groups, 1:1s, including counseling, evaluation, education and participation for assigned population, which may include a locked secure facility
+ Modifications/accommodations are made in order to provide services, which enable patients at varying functional levels to fully participate
+ Maintain the equipment in good working condition
+ Provide a safe and secure environment at all times
Documentation and Evaluation:
+ Provide and audit documentation/charts in accordance with hospital and Department policies and procedures
+ Documentation includes patient-specific information as well as overall programmatic documentation relating to problems, objectives, and interventions, patient’s progress or lack thereof as it correlates to individualized treatment goals is reflected in the documentation
+ Treatment is reviewed, changed, modified or terminated based on patient response or significant change in the patient’s functioning
+ Provide assessment, daily notes, and monthly summaries, for assigned individual patients
+ Complete data entry and any other documentation/forms as a requirement per CMHIP policies, i.e. IOJ, patient and staff incident reports
Safety, Security , and Risk Management:
+ Evaluate the environment for safety/security risks and patients’ behaviors to help provide a Therapy service delivery system that maintains the safety of all patients and staff, by adhering to hospital security policies, including escorting clients to and from Therapy groups and areas
+ Utilize de-escalating and MANDT techniques from training
+ Evaluate and monitor supplies, equipment, etc., to ensure safety and security, including area searches for contraband
+ Fill out accountability forms to identify patient location and communication with the unit
+ Talk to the team to identify appropriate patients for groups based on precautions and acuity
+ Monitors patient and program progress to ensure individual needs are met
Meetings, Training, and Certification Management:
+ Attend monthly department, area, and committee meetings, program meetings, team meetings, and other meetings as assigned
+ Attend all in-service and training as mandated by CMHHIP and educational training necessary to maintain professional certifications and competencies
+ Research and attend workshops both on and off campus
Other Duties as Assigned:
+ Other duties may be assigned or may be asked to work other units to ensure coverage

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience Only:
Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to six (6) years
Special Qualifications:
+ CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) certification from NCTRC or Board Certification in the areas of Music Therapy, Art Therapy, dance/ movement
+ Due to the population served at this facility, incumbents of this position must be at least 21 years of age
+ Must be willing and able to work with patients / clients in a secured and/or locked facility / environment
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Previous State Experience
+ Experience working in an acute care hospital
+ Experience facilitating groups with clients who may have little motivation

• Successfully pass all modules of the CMHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;
• Possess the physical ability to successfully complete hospital required physical intervention training and CPR;
• Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
• Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
• Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield;
• Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic;
• Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions;
• Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety;
• Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
• Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
• Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
• Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English, both verbally and in writing;
• Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
• Willing and able to travel;
• 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;
• Annual influenza and other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado
CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
