Department Information
The University makes available a broad array of credit and non-credit courses, seminars, and workshops through the Division of Extended Studies. Some programs are offered on campus and others at off-campus sites including in Colorado Springs, at Fort Carson, in Douglas County, in Huerfano County, and at public high schools throughout the state of Colorado, and more.
The Division of Extended Studies (ES) provides courses to full-time, part-time, and non- traditional students. Many educational methods - classroom instruction, correspondence courses, online courses, conferences, workshops, and seminars - are utilized to expand educational access and meet the needs of students at convenient times and settings. Students may earn academic credit toward a degree, study for career advancement, or pursue cultural and avocational interests.

Description of Job
The Instructional Designer reports directly to the Associate Dean of Adult Learning and works with faculty and colleagues to analyze instructional outcomes and provide expertise in the planning, development, and delivery of high-quality learning experiences across online programs, the Independent Study program, Satellite campus courses, and other professional development opportunities. They analyze, apply trends in learning technologies, and utilize instructional design techniques to organize content and flow of information to students. The Instructional Designer works with content experts and faculty during all phases of the course life cycle including planning, development, delivery, evaluation, and updating as courses are converted into effective online learning formats.
Primary Duties
LMS Course Development and Maintenance
Design and deliver professional development in online/hybrid instructional strategies. Maintain good working relationships with CSU Pueblo’s academic and administrative departments, programs, and the Division of Extended Studies for planning and operations of online course development and growth. Assist target faculty as they convert to effective online learning formats and pilot converted courses. Build new courses, maintain and update existing courses, and support the Banner integration process for each term. Problem-solve IT issues as well as develop curriculum with faculty subject matter experts.
Administrative Function Management
Collaboratively work with the Associate Dean of Extended Studies and potential outside instructional design contractors, including technology agreements and instructional partner companies, to design, deliver, maintain, update, and assess online curriculum.
Faculty Training and Compliance
Work with campus departments including IT and CTLL to develop and provide training and support to faculty and subject matter experts to institute best practices in online course development and teaching.
Regulatory Reporting Management
Collaboratively work with the Provost’s office, Division of Extended Studies, campus departments (Deans, Chairs, Program Directors, and Faculty) regarding compliance and accreditation requirements related to online courses. Support the university OER directive and maintain compliance with OER policy in Extended Studies and textbook orders with the CSU Pueblo Bookstore. Collect data and assist the Director of HSI Initiatives with reporting on grant activity.
Innovation and Accessibility
Regularly assess online market-drive educational innovations and collaboratively respond in coordination with the Associate Dean of Adult Learning as appropriate with modifications to processes, policies, and procedures, as well as with opportunities for program growth. Seek to embed university best practices and ADA compliance in instructional design support.
Division and University Affairs
Participates in Division and University affairs, at Pueblo or satellite or system location to enhance the assigned programs' performance and quality. Works to meet the expectations of the university's mission and vision.
Ancillary Duties
Other duties as assigned (i.e. serves on university committees as necessary).
Salary Range
$70,000 - $74,000 annually

Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, online education, or equivalent field.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and enterprise information systems
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
+ Demonstrated project management skills
+ Minimum 2 years in instructional design experience in developing online, mobile, training and instructor-led courses
+ Experience with eLearning technology platforms and learning management systems
+ Experience with and commitment to working with populations of students reflective of the CSU Pueblo community.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s or Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution instructional design or educational technology.
+ Quality Matters Certification
+ Knowledge of instructional design models, strategies, and best practices
+ Knowledge of streaming video and video file types and formats
+ Strong written and interpersonal skills
+ Experience in accessibility, usability, and experience design
+ Experience in information design and communications
+ Experience with Captivate software
