    Sponsored Student Accounts Specialist (Accounting Technician III)

     

    Empowering Students Through Financial Stewardship and Partnership

     

    Are you passionate about supporting student success through financial clarity and collaboration? Join our Controller's Office team as aSponsored Student Accounts Specialist, where you'll be the key liaison between students, external sponsors, and the University—ensuring that educational funding flows smoothly and accurately.

     

    In this pivotal role, you'll manage third-party sponsorships and billing arrangements for students whose tuition and fees are covered by external organizations. You’ll be the go-to expert for sponsor billing and collections, ensuring compliance, precision, and timely communication across departments.

    What You’ll Do:

    Third-Party Billing & Account Management (50%)

     

    + Serve as the primary contact for students and sponsors, guiding them through billing policies and account status.

    + Set up and maintain sponsor accounts in our student information system.

    + Interpret contracts and letters of credit to determine billing terms.

    + Generate invoices and reconcile sponsor payments with student accounts.

    + Monitor outstanding balances and lead collection efforts.

    + Collaborate with Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, Veterans Services, and Accounting to ensure accurate billing and compliance.

     

    Customer Service & Office Support (25%)

     

    + Provide exceptional service at the front desk and over the phone, assisting with inquiries about billing, payments, and account holds.

    + Coordinate with internal departments to resolve complex account issues.

    + Manage the shared Bursar Office email inbox, ensuring timely and clear communication.

    + Process mail and serve as cashier backup when needed.

     

    Student Refund Processing (20%)

     

    + Process refunds from financial aid overpayments, course changes, and waivers.

    + Ensure compliance with federal and institutional guidelines.

    + Maintain accurate documentation and respond to student inquiries with professionalism and care.

     

    Team Collaboration & Special Projects (5%)

     

    + Support colleagues during peak periods and contribute to departmental initiatives.

    + Assist with outreach efforts and participate in events like registration and orientation.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience Only:

    Three (3) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position, which included basic accounting knowledge and experience .(Experience must be clearly documented in the Work History section of your application. "See Resume" will not be accepted)

    OR

    Education and Experience:

    A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years (Transcripts must be attached for educational credit).

    Appeal Rights:
