    The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is seeking a motivated attorney to serve as Attorney 1-4 within the Bureau of Legal Services. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide legal counsel and strategic guidance to the Office of Public Health (OPH) and the State Health Officer (SHO) on matters involving public health laws and the State Sanitary Code (SSC).

     

    As a Senior Counsel,the incumbent will play a key role in supporting OPH’s mission to protect and promote the health of Louisiana’s citizens. The position serves as a trusted legal advisor to OPH leadership—including the Assistant Secretary, State Health Officer, Chief Sanitarian, Program Manager of the Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology (SEET), and Director of the Center for Community Preparedness.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Provide senior-level legal counsel to the Office of Public Health (OPH) and the State Health Officer (SHO) on matters related to public health laws and the State Sanitary Code (SSC).

    + Advise OPH leadership, including the Assistant Secretary, Chief Sanitarian, and program directors, on complex legal and regulatory issues affecting public health operations and initiatives.

    + Draft, review, and interpret legislation, regulations, contracts, and legal documents to ensure compliance with state and federal public health laws.

    + Represent the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and OPH in administrative hearings, negotiations, and other legal proceedings as assigned.

    + Provide consultative support and legal guidance to all OPH offices and bureaus, except the Center for Records and Statistics (Vital Records) and the Bureau of Engineering.

    + Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement policies and strategies that support LDH’s public health objectives and legal compliance.

    Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER), as well as a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity.

     

    Attorney 1 – $27.08 hr / $2,166.40 bi-weekly

     

    Attorney 2 – $28.98 hr / $2,318.40 bi-weekly

     

    Attorney 3 – $32.02 hr / $2,561.60 bi-weekly

     

    Attorney 4– $34.26 hr / $2,740.80 bi-weekly
