Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a _Surveyor_ to join our Corporate Services & Communications team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What** **does a Surveyor** **do** **for** **us** **?
They provide land surveying services using traditional survey instruments and global positioning system (GPS) technologies. They perform research of boundary evidence, draw exhibit easements, and write legal descriptions. They collect survey data to obtain permits. They exercise professional judgement of complicated land survey matters by evaluation of written, field, and parole evidence.
This role is responsible for a combination of field and office work, primarily focused on wildfire mitigation, new and expanding substations, and transmission line projects. In additional to technical work, the surveyor interacts with project managers and manages contracted survey work with Idaho Power’s survey contractors.

Preferred:
+ Electric utility line design, construction, and mapping techniques

Skills in:
+ Land survey instruments and GPS technologies
+ Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and advanced math
+ AutoDesk Civil 3D software
+ Analysis techniques
+ Strong customer service
+ Plotter and scanner technologies
+ Computer network operations
+ Personal computer use and maintenance
+ Microsoft Office applications
+ File management
Preferred:
+ Arc Map GIS, Trimble Business Center, and Autodesk Map3D
Ability to:
+ Read and understand construction drawings and plat, feeder, and work order maps
+ Understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions
+ Work independently for extended periods
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
+ Bachelor's degree in geomatics, land surveying, or civil engineering with an emphasis in land surveying
OR
+ An equivalent combination of training and experience
Preferred:
+ Bachelor's degree in geomatics, land surveying, or civil engineering with an emphasis in land survey
+ Additional accredited education in computer aided drafting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Experience:
+ 4 years of experience using traditional survey instruments, GPS technologies, researching boundary evidence, drawing exhibit easements using Autodesk Civil 3D, and writing legal descriptions _including one of the following:_
+ Being licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Idaho
+ **OR**
+ 2 years of experience surveying for electric utility projects
Preferred:
+ 6 years of experience providing land surveying services using traditional survey instruments and GPS technologies
+ 6 years of researching boundary evidence, drawing exhibit easements using Autodesk Civil 3D, and writing legal descriptions
Licenses & Certifications:
+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
Preferred:
+ Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the states of Idaho and Oregon
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job requires the ability to frequently bend, stoop, crawl, squat, crouch, climb, twist, kneel, and stand for long periods of time. Access survey locations over uneven terrain such as hills, mountains, rocks, structures, and fences. Lift (shoulder high and above, knee high and waist high) and carry survey and GPS equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. The job requires walking at extreme grades on steep hillsides and through valleys. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others or property. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Occasionally perform duties outside of normal working hours. Occasional to frequent travel with overnight stays throughout Idaho Power's service area.
