Position Description

Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors. Serco is looking for Engineering Tech IV for their SE III Program. To perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts. Contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work; reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others. Supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives, requirements, and design approaches; completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. May train and be assisted by lower level technicians. Performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as: Designs, develops, and constructs major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements which are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results, and prepares reports on findings and recommendation
Qualifications
+ Must be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety is critical.
+ Position requires High School Diploma or equivalent
+ 8 years of experience in a shipyard environment.
+ Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation.
+ Applicants also must be willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.
+ Applicants must successfully undergo a background investigation.
+ This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens
+ Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
+ 25% travel may be required.Applicant must be willing to travel to various work sites.
+ The ability to work onsite in Chesapeake, VA.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Mil-Spec multipin and fiber optic connector certification
