JOB SUMMARY

The Cancer Registry Abstractor is responsible for collecting medical record data from a variety of sources for submission to the Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System and/or the National Cancer Database, as required for accreditation with the American College of Surgeons. The individual identifies reportable neoplasms, collects clinical data, codes and enters medical information into the Cancer Registry database, and performs lifetime follow-up to provide cancer incidence, treatment and outcome information for quality improvement activities, administrative planning and marketing, support programs and research activities. The framework for the cancer registry role is defined by the current cancer program standards established by the Commission on Cancer and the requirements determined by the National Cancer Registrars Association.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

_For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation._

**Minimum Required:** Associate’s degree or 60 college level credits.

**Preferred/Optional:** Associate’s degree in Cancer Registry Management, Cancer Information Management or in an allied health field.

EXPERIENCE

**Minimum Required:** None

**Preferred/Optional:** Experience in cancer registry abstracting or clinical research study data collection. Clinical oncology experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

_The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position._

**Minimum Required:** Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification awarded by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) within three years of hire.

**Preferred/Optional:** Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification awarded by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) at time of hire.
