    Job Summary:

    A Patient Care Tech (PCT) at ProMedica plays a vital role in the health and safety of our patients every day. From caring for patients to performing clerical services, a PCT helps all members of the ProMedica health care team while complying with standards, procedures, and policies. A PCT is a genuine ambassador for ProMedica as they interact with patients, visitors, and co-workers.

     

    The PCT assists the patient care team with exams, procedures, obtaining patient data and other processes related to direct patient care. The PCT also ensures an appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available and functioning properly.

     

    In this role, you will perform tasks related to scheduling procedures, coordinating admission as well as discharge and transfer processes. PCTs answer phones, take messages, and direct calls. You will also pick up and deliver specimens, documents, and other items to contribute to operational efficiency.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    *All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

    + Maintains established standards of patient care and policies and procedures of ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital and the nursing department.

    + Answers call lights, ensure patient’s needs, acts upon routine requests, or relays information to the proper person.

    + Assists patients with or provides personal hygiene care and other routine services patients requiringassistance such as bathing, dressing, shaving, offering, and removing bed pans, and so forth.

    + Serves patients with food trays and snacks and removes trays. Assists feeding patients if necessary.

    + May obtain and record patient’s vital signs including temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure readings, patient’s intake and output glucometer checks, patient weights, and other routine pertinent information. Observes patients’ conditions and medical equipment or apparatus reporting all unusual conditions or reactions to the appropriate nursing personnel. May assist nurses and physicians with patient examinations. Initiates and discontinues telemetry monitoring while maintaining a knowledge of the telemetry transmitter (i.e., changing patches, changing batteries).

    + Performs rounding in assigned rooms every other hour on patient to determine need for restroom, position change, possessions, and need for additional nursing care. Tidies patients’ rooms, changes bed linens, empties medical apparatus of patient discharges, and performs routine cleaning tasks on the nursing unit, as necessary.

    + Assists in admitting patients to the nursing unit, obtaining necessary or specialized supplies or equipment, explaining hospital routines, policies and so forth. Ambulates or assists in the ambulation of patients; assists in lifting patients in order to transfer them to and from wheelchair or wheeled beds; assists patients in walking; and transports patients to other areas of the hospital.

    + Assists and maintains participation in performance improvement and customer service improvement activities for patient care. Attends department meetings. Assists with the orientation of new personnel.

    REQUIREMENTS

    + Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

    + Skills: The ability to perform routine patient care functions such as baths, taking temperatures, pulse and respiration and blood pressure. One to four weeks of on-the-job training at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital in order to become familiar with job responsibilities and duties, the work area, and policies and procedures. Must be able to follow routine written and/or verbal instructions. Must have interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with patients of the following ages: Pediatric (8-12 years); adolescent (13-17 years); adult (18-64 years); and geriatric (64 years and above); physicians, other hospital personnel as needed to promote quality patient care. Due to continuously changing patient census/activity and staffing needs, must have the flexibility to work a varying schedule should the need arise, which may require working a varying shift, overtime (greater than 40 hours per week) and/or shift durations that exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per week.

    + License: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    + Certification: Certified Nurse Aide certification
