    Job Description

    OVERVIEW:

    The Moreno Lab is seeking a Part Time Research Scientist 2 to contribute to ongoing studies on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac pacemaker function. The position focuses on integrating physiological, molecular, and imaging approaches to understand heart rate regulation in mammalian and avian models. The successful candidate will be an experienced researcher with a strong background in cardiac physiology and demonstrated technical expertise in multiple experimental modalities, including in vivo cardiac ECG recordings, pacemaker cell isolation, in situ hybridization, confocal microscopy, mouse colony genetics and molecular biology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    20% Conduct isolation of cardiac pacemaker cells from mouse and bird hearts.

     

    20% Perform high-resolution imaging studies, including RNAscope and confocal microscopy, to investigate gene expression and subcellular localization in cardiac tissue.

     

    20% Record and analyze electrocardiograms (ECGs) in anesthetized mice and birds to evaluate heart rate, rhythm, and conduction properties.

     

    15% Quantitatively analyze ECG data and integrate findings with cellular electrophysiology and imaging results.

     

    15% Manage and maintain mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and record keeping for transgenic and knockout lines.

     

    10% Collaborate with the principal investigator, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees to design experiments, troubleshoot methods, and contribute to manuscript preparation.

     

    Pay Rate Information

     

    The salary information provided below is for a full-time position and will be prorated for part-time.

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Physiology, or related field and two years of relevant experience in pacemaker cell biology and cardiac physiology.

    • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Demonstrated expertise in cardiac physiology, including experience isolating cardiac pacemaker cells.

    • Proven proficiency in RNAscope and confocal microscopy techniques for molecular and structural analysis.

    • Experience conducting ECG recordings in anesthetized mice and birds and performing detailed ECG data analysis.

    • Familiarity with management of mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and handling of transgenic lines.

    • Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to maintain meticulous laboratory records.

    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a demonstrated commitment to high research standards and reproducibility.

    DESIRED:

    Experience with Immunolabeling, calcium imaging, and confocal microscopy.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $61,920.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $96,000.00 annual
