    Job Summary

    The Life Course Development Program within the Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute forSocial Research (ISR) has a position opening for a Research Assistant for the Healthy Brain Project(HBP). The major goal of the Life Course Development Program (LCD) is to expand our knowledgeof the associations among social relations, mental, cognitive and physical health, oftenby using regional, national, and international datasets. This project (HBP) will collectbiomarkerdata including blood draw and MRI data, from Arab Americans aged 65 and over livingin the metro-Detroit area who have participated in the Detroit Aging and Memory Project (D-AMP), as well as blacks and whites aged 65 and over who have participated in the longitudinalSocial Relations Study and more recently the D-AMP study. For the project, the HBPResearch Assistant will serve to primarily support all research activities as defined below.

    Responsibilities*

    + Managing MRI and blood draw data collection by contacting and recruiting D-AMP studyparticipants and screening them for MRI eligibility, scheduling/managing MRI and blooddraw appointments with the UM fMRI Laboratory and the Michigan Alzheimers DiseaseResearch Center (MADRC), as well as meeting participants at MADRC, administeringthe informed consent, and escorting them to the fMRI Laboratory. Perform data entry, data management, and quality control.

    + Track subjects and maintain accurate and detailed study records.

    + Prepare and manage of project materials, including recruitment materials and consent documentsin both English and Arabic.

    + Assist the project team with the preparation of graphs, charts, figures and tables for manuscriptsand conference presentations. In addition, carry out literature searches on contextualfactors (cognitive, physical, mental) in health for faculty publications and presentationneeds.

    + Other duties as assigned, maintaining project records, and assisting with other project relatedduties as needed by the project team.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree in relevant field (sociology, psychology, gerontology) and minimum 1-3 years of related experience.

    + Demonstrated fluency in Arabic language with strong reading and writing skills.

    + Interest in working with minority communities, especially the Arab American communitiesin the Detroit Metropolitan area.

    + Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously and work both independently and as a memberof a team.

    + Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.

    + Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in both verbal and written form.

    + Effective team player with the ability to maintain open communication and share critical informationto ensure seamless project progression.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Experience working with minority communities.

    + Demonstrated knowledge and interest in aging issues.

    + Human Subjects Research Experience.

     

    Work Locations

     

    You'll work on-site, in person at the University of Michigan, Institute of Social Research, Survey ResearchCenter in Ann Arbor.
