    Job Summary

    The department of Cell & Developmental Biology is seeking a highly motivated and professional individual for an exciting opportunity. This is a great entry-level position for someone looking for a job with a variety of responsibilities. This individual will learn a lot about the various University of Michigan systems, by helping manage the day-to-day administrative operations. This position requires the ability to prioritize multiple job responsibilities, and the individual must demonstrate professionalism (and also have fun) and work well both individually and in a team.

     

    The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan Medical School is dedicated to the instruction and guidance of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, as well as post-baccalaureate and post-doctoral trainees in the areas of cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, neuroscience, organogenesis, stem cell biology, and tissue repair and regeneration.

    Responsibilities*

    The position provides a wide-range of administrative support, including:

    + **CDB Information Management/Record Keeping** - Manage department email groups, shared calendar, including intranet, entering information in to DART, managing the intranet, and support communications with newsletters, reviewing publications for CDB chair, working with Life Science Institute to keep LSI/CDB faculty information up to date. Ensure the department's events and updates digital board is up to date, managing the department's shared equipment sign up form

    + Work with the academic affairs program manager to support PhD and Post Doc program implementation and logistics, course schedules, event planning, student registration, thesis committee meetings, database management, and handbook updates

    + **Onboarding/Offboarding** - Manage onboarding and offboarding process and documentation, manage account access, work with leadership to maintain onboarding guides for faculty, trainees, and staff, send exit surveys

    + **Events and Meeting Management and Support** - Location selection, room reservation, catering, registration, and attendee tracking.

    + **General Office Duties** - Building access, sort and deliver mail, manage supply orders, call in work orders for building issues, manage printer/equipment issues, manage award tracking, send thank you notes as donations are received, cash deposits, timekeeping (backup), expenses reporting (backup), device ordering (backup).

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor?s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

    + Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

    + Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision.

    + Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.

    + Ability to interact with and build professional relationships with faculty and staff at all levels.

    + Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

     

    Modes of Work

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
