Senior Associate Engineer
Job Description
As a member of the Spark Ignited Gas Engine Performance team within LPSD, the successful candidate will serve as an experienced individual contributor, working in a fast paced environment to develop a Caterpillar engine system for use in applications such as Electric Power, Gas Compression, Marine, Petroleum and other Spark Ignited applications. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the engine system meets program requirements with respect to performance and controls, emissions and software. They will be required to use simulation, analysis, and engineering judgment to meet program deliverables.
**What you will do** :
+ Engine performance requirements development
+ Engine performance calibration, mapping, and validation
+ Reporting at Design reviews, Gateway/Stakeholder reviews, and TRL reviews
+ Field Follow support
Specific Tasks include:
+ Engine System Physical modeling
+ Engine System behavioral simulation and analysis
+ Test plan generation
+ Engine Performance/altitude/transient analysis
+ Engine Troubleshooting and testing in a field and lab environment
+ Data collection and diagnostics for field testing at various locations
This involves working to develop performance requirements to meet program deliverables, and ensuring that performance and controls algorithms are capable of meeting those requirements. This includes combustion and system level simulation using GT-Power, engine performance development mapping in a performance cell and validation that final software is capable of meeting program deliverables from both a performance and emissions standpoint. Support of field follow engines is also required to ensure that the product is meeting the customers requirements in a field setting.
The individual must be able to work as part of a team, and coordinate with controls experts, aftertreatment specialists, platform engineers, NPI coordinators, and many others in a fast paced development and validation environment. They must have a systems engineering focus, and be motivated to meet/exceed customer expectations. A strong understanding of spark ignited combustion and system interactions is required. Support of currently available spark ignited gas products is also required.
Education:
+ BS degree in an accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology curriculum or relevant experience is desired.
Top Candidates will also have:
+ Experience in Spark Ignited Natural gas rating calibration and validation
+ Relevant Caterpillar engine performance development and validation experience.
+ Experience in the simulation/modeling/analysis of natural gas, dual fuel or diesel engine systems and or sub-systems
+ The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions

**Effective Communications:** Level Working Knowledge. Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
**Design for Manufacturability (DFM):** Level Working Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations.
**Engineering - MFG:** Level Working Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
**Product Testing:** Level Working Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
**Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Level Working Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.

+ This position requires travel up to 10% of the time.

Summary Pay Range:
$87,480.00 - $131,280.00
