    **This position will work out of the St Paul office building for the first six months of employment. This position is eligible for telework for applicants who reside in Minnesota or in a bordering state, with supervisory approval and satisfactory performance. If you live in a state bordering Minnesota, you must live within 50 miles or less from the primary work location to be eligible for telework.**

     

    The Special Recovery Unit ensures that Medicaid (Medical Assistance or MA in Minnesota) is the payer of last resort by recovering resources owned by individuals after death, to help pay for the medical care they received. This position is part of a team that is responsible for monitoring approximately 4000 trusts, providing education and guidance to lay-trustees, ensuring that DHS protects its legal interests in trusts, and recovering on the trusts after the death of the primary beneficiary. This position is responsible for reviewing, entering, and updating data into the system database to maintain accuracy and efficiency. This position is responsible for identifying possible legal issues in trusts and coordinating with the lead worker to address the issues and determine next steps.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of experience in a position that requires critical thinking to analyze cases and situations that deal with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

    Experience must demonstrate:

    + Ability to research, interpret and apply Federal Regulatory Guidance and Minnesota Statutes.

    + Familiarity with accepted accounting methods and fiduciary responsibility.

    + Database management skills sufficient to navigate multiple databases, systems and screens simultaneously.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Paralegal degree/certification or five (5) years’ experience as a legal assistant/secretary.

    + Knowledge of the MAXIS, MNsure and MMIS eligibility and claims payment systems and claims resolution.

    + Strong Interpersonal relation skills; high level of verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce desired outcomes.

    + Maintain database and prepare reports, case files, etc.

    + Ability to apply logic in a work environment.

    + Ability to be flexible and quickly respond to changing situations.

    + Ability to work independently, prioritize work load, allocate time in an efficient manner, and meet deadlines.

    + Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
