The position of Tribal Relations Planner within the Department of Public Safety Office Commissioner’s Office under administrative direction of the Tribal Relations Director assists with and facilitates the planning, development, and implementation of office strategic priorities and goals through collaboration with Minnesota’s Tribal Nations, Bands, and Communities; federal, state, and local law enforcement; federal and state agencies; and community-based organizations. This position establishes and promotes effective working partnerships among tribal governments and DPS; and perform other duties as assigned.
**Hybrid Eligible:** Employees may telework up to 50% or more, depending on the position and the needs of the division. Employees who live 50 miles or more from their permanent work location may be allowed to telework more than 50% with approval from the division director.

Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in criminal justice, public safety, public administration, or related field
Experience must include the following:
+ Clear understanding of, experience in working with, interacting and participating with Tribal governments and/or Urban Indigenous community programs
+ Demonstrated administrative skills sufficient for facilitating, planning, and implementation of office strategic priorities and goals
+ Planning and communication skills sufficient to coordinate advisory groups, educate state agency staff and external stakeholders; draft policy and procedures; draft mandated reports and legislation
+ Computer Proficiency and the skill and ability in reviewing data and records and creating reports from data bases of information.
+ Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds .

*A bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ Tribal government work experience.
+ Knowledge of the history and culture of Minnesota tribes.
+ Strategic program analysis sufficient to plan future programmatic ideas, give updates on quality of programs and reporting.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
