    Maintains building floors and hallways to provide clean, comfortable, healthy and safe environment in state-owned or state-maintained structures using machine or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing and stripping wax, and vacuuming and scrubbing carpets. Cleans windows, skylights, ceilings and walls to maintain clean, comfortable and safe environment in state-owned or state-maintained structures by determining appropriate cleaning agents, mixing chemicals, and applying them.

     

    Cleans and maintains rooms and furniture to provide clean, safe and usable office, classroom or meeting space by dusting, moving, rearranging, setting up or taking down tables and chairs, and making minor repairs to furniture. Cleans restrooms to provide clean, comfortable and sanitary environment by scrubbing floors, sinks, stools, maintaining supplies of soap and paper products and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers. Performs grounds work to enhance appearance of landscape and maintain health of flowers, plants, shrubs, vines, lawns and trees by planting, cutting and mowing, raking, seeding, sodding, hedging, trimming, and watering.

     

    ** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of:

    + Different types of flooring and floor coverings sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and cleaning

    + Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, anti-bacterial, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle, apply and dispose of safely

    + Methods, hand and power tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs

    + Painting products and the processes of applying.

    + Must have a Class D Driver's License

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Special boilers license

    + Experience operating powered lawncare/snow removal equipment

    + Commercial Janitorial experience

    Physical Requirements

    + Lifting objects up to 70 pounds.

    + Transferring objects of various weights.

    + Walking, moving, standing for long period of time.

    + Sitting with pushing or pulling of arm and leg controls.

    + Strenuous physical labor including hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling, and climbing.

    + Working above ground level (e.g., on ladders and scaffolding).

    Successful candidate must pass past-employer reference checks and criminal history checks

    This position is contingent upon the selected job candidate having a valid Commercial Driver's License, submits to a Federal Department of Transportation Pre-employment drug test (with negative test results), is subject to future random drug and alcohol testing and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
