    POSITION SUMMARY :

    The Executive Director of the Martis Camp Foundation (MCF) is the professional leader of the organization reporting to the Martis Camp Foundation Board of Directors while also maintaining a collegial and professional relationship with Martis Camp leadership. The Executive Director is the public face of the Foundation partnering with local nonprofit and community leaders to deliver positive change within the Truckee/North Tahoe area.  The Executive Director will lead all strategy, fundraising campaigns, events, direct solicitations and communications on behalf of the Board to the Martis Camp Membership .

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

    + Lead all fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns, direct solicitations, and the signature summer auction/gala.

    + Cultivate relationships with donors, nonprofits, and community stakeholders.

    + Oversee grant-making and scholarship programs with strategic insight and compassion.

    + Represent MCF at Martis Camp events and in the broader Truckee/North Tahoe community.

    + Manage communications, marketing, and stewardship efforts to elevate MCF’s visibility and impact.

    + Ensure sound fiscal management and operational excellence.

    + Partner with the Board of Directors to shape long-term strategy and governance.

    + Maintain and update the Foundation’s website and outreach materials.

    + Attend community events and selectively support local nonprofits with strategic guidance.

    + Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and reports for Board and committee meetings.

    + Approve expenditures within delegated authority and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

    + Support Board development, orientation, and strategic planning efforts.

    + Monitor grant and scholarship programs to ensure compliance and impact reporting.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, especially during peak summer months (mid-June to mid-August).

    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    • Strong strategic planning and organizational abilities.

    • Charismatic and outgoing personality; comfortable in social and public settings.

    • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with donors, members, and community leaders.

    • Familiarity with philanthropic vehicles such as donor-advised funds (DAFs) and family foundations.

    • Maintain high ethical and professional standards.

    • Bonus: Strong golf, racquet sports, or skiing skills to connect with members.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES :

    • Bachelor’s degree required.

    • 5–10 years of experience in professional fundraising and nonprofit leadership.

    • Experience working with boards, donors, and community organizations.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to attend and participate in events at Martis Camp and in the Truckee/North Tahoe       community.

    • Ability to travel locally for site visits and community engagement.

    • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout event venues and office environments.

    LEADERSHIP PROFILE

    Professional, self-motivated leader with 5-10 years experience in professional fundraising and exposure to nonprofits. Candidate must have excellent planning and strategic thinking skills. He/She must have excellent written and oral communication skills to build connections to the Martis Camp membership and larger community. ED must be comfortable in all social situations when representing the Foundation. The ED must have a charismatic and outgoing personality to engage both the membership and the greater community. ED must have prior experience matching donor priorities with giving opportunities and must have a working knowledge of giving vehicles to leverage (ie: DAFs, family foundations, etc.). Bachelor's degree required. The job is heavily weighted to the busy summer months (mid June to mid August) at Martis Camp. Having excellent golf, racquet sports and/or skiing skills is a bonus.

     

    The MCF Executive Director will report directly to the Chair of the Martis Camp Foundation and be guided in their work by the MCF Board of Directors. Under the guidance of the Board of Directors of the Martis Camp Foundation, the Executive Director will manage all aspects of the MCF as set forth below.

     

    + Fundraising

    + Have a demonstrated success in fundraising

    + Increase MCF participation levels and overall donations

    + Manage annual auction/gala including helping solicit auction items, reach attendance goals though member outreach, coordinate vendors, oversee the day of event and donation collection after the event.

    II. Community Grant-Making & College Scholarship Administration, Ambassador Scholarship Administration and Program Planning

    + Understand and articulate the evolving needs in the region as related to MCF priority areas (education, youth development, human services, environment, and recreation)

    + Create and maintain strong relationships within the nonprofit community, regional public agencies, and community leaders and influencers

    + Provide oversight of the grant-making process by reviewing letters of inquiry and grant proposals submitted for consideration within the scholarships and grant programs, communicate with grant applicants and grantees; make site visits, as appropriate

    + Prepare written summaries and analysis of grant applications to assist in directing the board in evaluating and making awards

    + Facilitate the selection of community grant, High School Scholarship, and Ambassador Scholarship applicants with the relevant committees by making presentations to the Board regarding appropriate grant applications, scholarship candidates and other topics

    + Ensure program monitoring process for grants and special projects; assure that all grant requirements are met, including progress and final reports

    III. Community Relations & Outreach

    + Create and develop strong relationships with the MCF stakeholders, professional advisors and community leaders

    + Regularly attend Martis Camp events to build foundation presence.  Examples include all summer concerts, holiday camp gatherings, etc.

    + Represent the MCF in the community - listening and learning about the community; attending events in town like Truckee Tuesday meetings and occasional Chamber of Commerce events. Selectively consider helping Truckee non-profits with contact suggestions or strategy assistance when asked and when time allows.

    + Ensure outstanding stewardship of the Fund’s financial resources and delivery of grant-making and scholarship funds

    + Develop and implement a community relations and communications plan for MCF activities

    + Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the MCF’s community profile

    + Maintain the organization's website, outreach and marketing materials

    + Communicate to the stakeholders around the impact of the projects funded by member donations in our community

    + Work with the Board to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through grant-making, scholarship awards, strategic planning and community outreach

    IV. Fiscal Management

    + Develop, in coordination with the accountant, counsel and Board of Directors, an annual operating budget in alignment with the strategic plan

    + Work with the accountant and treasurer to ensure the completion of quarterly and annual financial reporting, tax returns and 990 reports

    + Fulfill the organization's strategic goals and operating budget requirements

    + Manage the day-to-day operations of the MCF

    V. Board Operations, Governance and Development

    + Work with the Board of Directors and advisors to enhance the governance of the MCF

    + Work with the Board on planning and implementation of ongoing Board development, including orientation and training of new Board members

    + Assist the Board in leading and developing a strategic plan and communications strategy. Three-year strategic plan to include strategy for MCF and potential for a capital campaign for Truckee project TBD

    + Identify and discuss community issues with the Board of Directors by providing

    information, guidance and recommendations to accomplish the strategic goals of the MCF

    + Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors and provide, in a timely and

    accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions

    + Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board and jointly with the Board of Directors, as appropriate

    + Support a strong Board of Directors and committee chairs; serve as ex-officio member of committees established by the Board except the audit committee

    + In coordination with the Board president and vice president, committee chairs and accountant, prepare meeting agendas and supporting materials for Board meetings, recording and publishing minutes, coordinating committee meetings and other special meetings as needed

    + Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
