Job Title: Synthesis Technician – Tire and OFS
Summary:Momentive is seeking a motivated and energetic Synthesis Technician to join the Tire & Rubber Technology Team. This individual will work under the guidance of experienced chemists to develop new silane molecules tailored for the tire industry. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, possess a strong foundation in laboratory chemistry, and be ready to contribute to an innovative team focused on delivering cutting-edge solutions. This is a hands-on role involving lab-scale synthesis, chemical testing, and collaborative problem-solving.

Please note that this role requires on-site presence five days per week, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities Include:
Research & Development:
+ Conduct synthesis experiments in glassware and metal reactors, scaling up to 5 kg as needed.
+ Execute synthetic routes for target molecules under direct supervision.
+ Perform instrumental testing and characterization of chemical and physical properties of tire and rubber additives, particularly sulfur silanes.
+ Troubleshoot quality issues related to coproducts, material compatibilities, and process optimization.
+ Conduct stability assessments of product candidates.
+ Perform rubber mixing experiments on a small scale rubber mixer and rubber process analyzer (RPA).
Laboratory Operations:
+ Safely conduct experiments while adhering to site safety protocols and ISO standards.
+ Maintain laboratory inventory, organize supplies, and assist in sample shipment.
+ Ensure proper disposal of chemical reagents according to established procedures.
+ Follow methods to evaluate chemical properties accurately.
Documentation & Reporting:
+ Accurately document experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
+ Record data, perform calculations, and complete relevant documentation for sample testing and shipping.
+ Prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations as required.
+ Communicate experimental results effectively to supervisors, team members, and cross-functional teams.
Safety & Compliance:
+ Maintain a strong safety mindset and adhere to all safety policies and protocols.
+ Actively participate in safety team activities and contribute to creating a safe and organized laboratory environment.
+ Conduct regular lab inspections and assist in implementing corrective actions.
Team Collaboration:
+ Collaborate closely with synthesis and application scientists on research
+ Support team objectives by managing multiple tasks effectively and prioritizing workload based on team goals.
+ Completes other duties as assigned
Travel:
+ Less than 10%
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
+ Familiarity with basic chemistry lab techniques and safe handling of chemical reagents.
+ Ability to conduct experiments in fume hoods using laboratory glassware and small-scale reactors.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for scientific exploration.
+ Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
+ Working knowledge of organic chemistry with the ability to carry out synthetic experiments.
+ Proficiency with standard personal computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.).
+ Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a cross-functional team environment.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
+ Self-motivated with a high level of technical curiosity.
+ Must be able to lift and carry laboratory materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs as part of routine experimental setup and cleanup .
The following are preferred for this position:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field such as chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or engineering with 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
+ Experience working in a chemical lab environment.
+ Highly detail-oriented and analytical.
