    This position will be located in our **Sylmar, CA** office.

    SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

    As a Machinist II here at Abbott your daily activities will include but not limited to making parts to specific drawing requirements, engaging with technicians, engineers and management in machine process capabilities. You will be asked to use a Windows computer to procure material, CNC program and communicate with others via Teams and Outlook. You will also set up, adjust, and operate standard and special most types of machine tools to perform diversified machining operations on work having close tolerance and finish specifications, Takes while taking initiative to ensure work is done accurately and completely. Performs assignments of varying moderate complexity including part and tool inspection. Applies existing work methods to different known situations. Problems involve involving recurring, or non routine situations; usually refers more complex problems to supervisor or more senior level personnel within organization.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    + Use a Windows Computer for daily tasks

    + Program CNC equipment using Mastercam

    + Setup, run, and inspect your own jobs. Some jobs require assembly.

    + Assemble tools with screws, dowel pins, knobs, latch pins and toggle clamps,

    + When not predetermined or prescribed, plans operational sequences, selects tooling, spindle speeds, tool feed rates, attachments, work supports, etc., to suit work and material characteristics for setups.

    + Positions, aligns and secures work between centers, on table or bed of machine using care to block and support parts to avoid distortion or tool deflection affecting dimensional specifications; orients tool to reference point and correlates integral table or tool head calibrating devices to the different steps of dimensionally related machining locations and cutting conditions.

    + May surface grind or prescribe grinding processes for special and standard tooling to compensate for unique material characteristics, variations, and cutting conditions.

    + Cleans and maintains machines and sharpens tools as required.

    + Performs heat treating procedures as required.

    + May set-up/utilize special test inspection equipment.

    + Notifies supervisor of the need to replenish supplies/materials and of any technical difficulties that cannot be readily corrected

    + Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

    + Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

    + High School Diploma / GED OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience

    + Associates Degree (± 13 years) In Mechanical Technology, equivalent. Trade school/military training, apprenticeship, or comparable related experience in biomedical field is desired.

    + Minimum 4 years’ experience working in a machine shop Environment. Must be able to program, setup and run your own parts.

    + Must have your own basic Machinist hand tools

    + Ability to operate without supervision, relevant manual and CNC equipment to include but not limited to CNC Milling machines, CNC Lathes, Bandsaws, Drill Press, and other not listed basic shop equipment. Relevant manual and CNC machining experience.

    + Minimum 2 years Mastercam CNC Mill Programming

    + Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the job, including the ability to set up and operate specialized and sophisticated machining equipment.

    + Requires the demonstrated ability to read moderately complex machine part drawings blueprints as well as the ability to use, operate and apply a range of precision inspection instruments and devices, e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.

    + Demonstrated verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and basic shop math skills.

    + Must maintain an acceptable level of proficiency in all process certifications.

    + Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.

    + Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

    + Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

    + Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

    + Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

    + Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

    + Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

    + Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.

    + Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

    + Occasional overtime is a requirement of this position.

     

    The base pay for this position is $22.05 – $44.15 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
