What you'll do...

The **Data Scientist – Machine Learning Engineer** will be responsible for developing and deploying applied machine learning models that improve member engagement and enhance discovery experiences across Sam’s Club’s digital and physical touchpoints. You’ll work alongside a talented team of Scientists and Engineers to design scalable ML solutions for **Search, Ranking, and Personalization** , using modern data pipelines and advanced modeling techniques.

You’ll contribute to the full ML lifecycle — from data preparation and feature engineering to model training, evaluation, and deployment — helping transform data into actionable intelligence that powers smarter recommendations and seamless member experiences.

What you'll do:

You’ll make an impact by…

+ Designing, training, and evaluating ML models that drive personalization and discovery.

+ Working closely with Data Engineers to operationalize and scale models in production.

+ Supporting **A/B testing and experimentation** to measure and optimize model impact.

+ Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to define **data and model requirements** .

+ Learning and applying emerging AI techniques to continuously improve member experiences.

What you'll bring:

You’ll sweep us off our feet if…

+ You have **2+ years of experience** in applied machine learning, data science, or AI systems development.

+ Strong foundation in algorithms such as **Collaborative Filtering, Matrix Factorization, or Deep Learning** .

+ Proficient in **Python** and familiar with ML frameworks like **TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn** .

+ Experience with **cloud platforms** (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and basic **MLOps** concepts.

+ Knowledge of **information retrieval, ranking, or recommendation systems** is a plus.

+ Strong problem-solving, communication, and data storytelling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Background in **computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics** .

+ Familiarity with **big data tools** such as Spark or BigQuery.

+ Exposure to **Gen AI or Agentic AI concepts** .

+ Understanding of **APIs and cloud-based deployment workflows** .

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
