Genetic counselors provide risk assessment, education, and support to individuals and families affected by or at risk for genetic conditions. Clinical genetic counselors work directly with patients to coordinate genetic testing, interpret results, and communicate findings to both patients and referring providers. Laboratory genetic counselors support clinicians with test coordination and result interpretation. In addition to patient care, genetic counselors serve as educators for trainees, healthcare professionals, and the public, and may also participate in research related to medical genetics and genetic counseling.
A caregiver in this position works from 8:00am - 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Perform genetic counseling functions in accordance with the Scope of Practice established by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. These may include:
+ Provide genetic counseling services to patients/families with a known or suspected genetic disorder.
+ Coordinate genetic testing and disclose results to patients and/or providers.
+ Complete documentation for patient care.
+ Become familiar with the electronic medical record (EMR).
+ Build time management skills to balance workload and responsibilities.
+ Maintain compliance with IRB and department research standards.
+ Demonstrate familiarity with current literature.
+ Contribute to research projects, abstracts, or manuscripts.
+ Become familiar with the department's educational materials.
+ Present at case conferences, journal clubs, or similar meetings.
+ Supervise genetic counseling for students during rotations.
+ Provide lectures and presentations to trainees and other medical professionals.
+ Contribute to educational programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Master's Degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program
+ Certified or certification-eligible from American Board of Genetic Counseling required
+ Licensed or license-eligible from Ohio Medical Board required
+ Must obtain ABGC certification within one year of date of hire
+ Clinical rotations as part of genetic counseling training program
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Experience working in a Clinical Laboratory environment

+ Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $52,270.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $79,727.50
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
