Essential Job Duties:
This position serves as part of the life safety and building systems support team, responsible for ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, programming, and repair of Fire Detection and Suppression Systems across campus facilities. The role requires specialized expertise in fire alarm systems, sprinkler and suppression systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and chemical), as well as related safety systems such as Security, CCTV , Card Access, and Central Alarm Receiving Stations. The position ensures compliance with all applicable codes and standards, including NFPA , NC Department of Insurance, ADA , and Life Safety 101 requirements, to maintain a safe and code-compliant environment.

Required Qualifications:
Licenses and Certifications:
+ Ability to identify and resolve, or make recommendations for, non-standard or complex problems involving electronic devices, subsystems, and systems through inspection, maintenance, or post-installation/failure analysis.
+ Ability to troubleshoot and evaluate multiple options, selecting appropriate actions by considering potential outcomes and system impact.
+ Ability to operate specialized test equipment to diagnose and repair non-standard electronic devices and systems.
+ Ability to research technical and electronic literature to modify, build, or interface electronic devices as needed.
+ Responds promptly to service calls with appropriate tools, diagnostic and programming equipment, and applicable system documentation.
+ Properly diagnoses and corrects system issues using laptop computers for diagnostics, history interrogation, operating system evaluation, and system database review.
+ Utilizes electronic test and diagnostic equipment to isolate defective components within boards or modules to prevent recurring failures.
+ Coordinates with the Life Safety/Electronic Shop Lead Technician to review and approve any required system database or operating program changes prior to implementation.

+ NICET Level I Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems
+ Limited Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners
+ Limited Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners
All licenses and certifications must be obtained within three (3) years of employment as a condition of continued employment.
