Duties Description In NYSLRS Application Development:• Supports retirement systems through technical analysis, design, development, and nightly on call support.• Requires strong programming and troubleshooting skills, adaptability to new technologies, and the ability to work under pressure.• Demonstrates effective communication, collaboration, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential for success.• Follows coding standards• Assists team members in creation of design documents and other related system documentation.

NCP notes: If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is three or less, the agency; at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a noncompetitive promotion without further examination under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law.If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is more than three, the agency; at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a provisional promotion under the provisions of Section 65 of the Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Demonstrated experience in Object Oriented Programming OR Object-Oriented Programming coursework.• Demonstrated experience with SQL is preferred.• Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft is preferred.• Demonstrated experience with programming tools/IDEs (ie: Eclipse, Ultra Editor, etc.) is preferred.• Demonstrated experience with database management tools (ie: Oracle SQL Developer, PL/SQL Developer, TOAD, etc.) is preferred.• Proficient at communicating with technical staff and customers alike.• Strong analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.• Demonstrated experience in handling high pressure situations, including the ability to work under tight deadlines, troubleshoot production issues (both during shift and on-call), and able to shift priorities with minimal guidance.• Demonstrated experience in adapting to new technologies as the environment changes.• Strong self-starter, with ability to pick up quickly on new technologies even when formal training and access to in-house experts are limited
