    Position Summary:

    Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Student Accessibility Services - Athletics Learning Specialist. - Boca Raton, FL.

     

    The Student Accessibility Services - Athletics Learning Specialist provides individualized academic support to student-athletes, serving as a key liaison with Student Accessibility Services (SAS). This role supports student-athletes in developing learning strategies, managing accommodations, and maintaining NCAA, Conference USA, and university academic eligibility.

    Summary of responsibilities:

    + Provide services in the central SAS office on a weekly basis.

    + Assist with exam proctoring in SAS during exam week.

    + Assist students with scheduling intake appointments, assistive technology (AT) training, and other duties, as needed.

    + Provide learning strategies for at-risk student-athletes by offering proactive and individualized support to enhance academic success and develop independent learners.

    + Design and implement sessions or workshops to address various academic needs, such as goal setting, time management, organization, study skills, and self-advocacy skills.

    + Assist student-athletes in understanding and meeting academic eligibility guidelines based on NCAA, C-USA, and FAU requirements. Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and ‎regulations.

    + Provide customer service and professionalism in dealing with athletics business partners, coaches, administrators, student-athletes, parents, faculty, and staff. Assist with the recruitment of student-athletes, where appropriate.

    + Apply NCAA standards to determine continuing eligibility status and provide guidance related to consequences of enrollment decisions.

    + Responsible for influencing and building working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.

    + Responsible for reading, interpreting, and effectively communicating complex rules and regulations.

    + Provide academic support to a designated caseload of student-athletes, and serve as a liaison with the SAS.

    + Assist with the coordination of assessment, screening, and psycho-educational evaluations and evaluate documentation of student-athletes.

    + Oversee and update the Student-Resource Indicator (SRI), as needed (generally on a semester basis), which evaluates each student-athlete and allows the department to provide a holistic and catered experience for each student-athlete.

    + Oversee additional part-time academic support personnel, where appropriate, to assist in the execution of student-athlete academic plans.

    + Teach study skills and learning strategies to students. Evaluate the developmental learning progress of student-athletes. Report student progress to the Director of Academic Support, and communicate student developmental learning progress with athletic academic staff and coaches as needed. Where applicable, assist students with the transition to university and how to best utilize their accommodations.

    + Assist with the development of the student-athlete summer bridge and SLS programs.

    + Meet with student-athletes on assigned caseload to monitor their academic progress, use of accommodations, and employment of strategies. Assist with the compilation of a student risk assessment and provide input for academic plans.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

    Salary:

    $43,242 - $45,000 per year.
