Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Publications Lead to drive the development and completion of technical manuals in accordance with S1000D standards and U.S. Navy (USN) or equivalent military specifications. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in Contenta or similar S1000D-compliant content management systems, and who can hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up time.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end process of technical publication development, from planning through final delivery.
Author, edit, and manage technical content using Contenta or equivalent S1000D platforms.
Ensure compliance with military documentation standards (e.g., MIL-STD, NAVSEA, or equivalent).
Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and product teams to gather source data and validate content.
Manage content modules, illustrations, and metadata within a Common Source Database (CSDB).
Support quality assurance reviews and implement feedback to maintain documentation accuracy and consistency.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Qualifications:
Proven experience with S1000D authoring and publishing tools (e.g., Contenta, Arbortext, Oxygen XML).
Familiarity with USN or DoD-style technical manuals (e.g., IETMs, IETPs, MIL-STD-38784, NAVSEA Tech Manuals).
Strong understanding of XML-based content structures and modular documentation.
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Local candidates preferred to minimize onboarding time; relocation may delay project timelines.
Preferred:
Prior experience supporting defense or aerospace programs.
Knowledge of Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs).
Security clearance or eligibility is a plus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
