We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and engineering of gearboxes and associated components in the realm of industrial automation equipment. The role involves overseeing product development, specifically focusing on the gearbox, its housings, covers, and interfaces with motors and shafts. This position requires a balanced approach, with 30% dedicated to new product development and 60% to sustaining engineering or product improvements to meet specific customer applications. The remaining 10% of the role involves business-related tasks.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the design and engineering of gearbox components.
+ Manage the interface of the gearbox with motors and shafts.
+ Conduct new product development and product improvements.
+ Perform failure analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
+ Collaborate with various teams and manage product/project from design phase through to testing and manufacturability.
+ Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma methodologies.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology.
+ Minimum of 2 years experience in 3D product development of mechanical systems.
+ Proficiency in designing metal parts and components such as sheet metal, aluminum, die cast, and cast iron.
+ Exposure to FEA and structural analysis with an understanding of the calculations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with gearboxes.
+ Proficiency in Ansys for simulation and analysis.
+ Experience in vibration and noise testing and cancellation.
+ Proficiency in Solidworks.
+ Six Sigma Green, Yellow, or Black Belt certification.
Work Environment
The position is based in a large, clean manufacturing environment that is 20% automated, with plans to increase automation in the near future. The job operates on a 1st shift schedule, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with minimal overtime and no weekend work. The role involves 70% desk work and 30% lab or factory floor time.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, Indiana.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
