Job Title: Quality Lab Supervisor
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive 2nd shift Quality Lab Supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations in our food manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for supervision of Quality Lab Techs, ensuring accurate execution of analytical tests and upholding the integrity of lab procedures, documentation, and quality systems.
Responsibilities
+ Supervise Quality Lab Technicians and ensure accurate execution of analytical tests.
+ Oversee laboratory testing operations to ensure consistent, reliable results while maintaining efficiency and data integrity.
+ Verify that all testing data is accurately entered into the designated system (LEMS) within required timeframes.
+ Promote a high-performance culture in the lab, emphasizing strict compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
+ Manage supply levels by monitoring inventory and placing orders to maintain necessary stock of lab materials and equipment.
+ Foster a safe and health-conscious work environment.
+ Lead investigations into any discrepancies involving lab techniques, equipment, or performance.
+ Ensure laboratory staff adhere to established testing schedules and protocols.
+ Oversee the preventive maintenance and calibration schedule for lab instruments.
+ Assist with the rollout of new testing tools and procedures.
+ Support environmental monitoring activities, including swab testing, as needed.
+ Conduct periodic reviews and audits of technician performance to confirm adherence to SOPs and maintain testing accuracy.
+ Provide training and mentorship to Laboratory Technicians.
+ Coordinate testing services with external laboratories when required.
+ Participate in proficiency assessments such as ring tests.
+ Encourage and apply 5S organizational principles within the lab setting.
+ Perform laboratory testing when necessary to support operations.
+ Collaborate with lab leadership to address performance issues, including disciplinary actions when appropriate.
+ Be available to occasionally assist during non-standard hours, rotating with team members.
+ May be asked to take on additional responsibilities, including temporarily stepping in for the Laboratory Manager.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry; Master’s or PhD preferred.
+ 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience in food manufacturing, including at least 3 years in microbiology.
+ 3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role is mandatory.
+ Solid understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
+ Demonstrated experience working within ISO standards or strong familiarity with its requirements.
+ Extensive experience in microbiological testing and analysis.
+ Must be a team player, lead by example, exhibit positive leadership, and manage with politeness.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficient in chemical testing with a strong foundation in chemistry principles.
+ Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work.
+ Clear and effective communication skills, both written and spoken; fluent in English.
+ Proven ability to build and sustain positive, collaborative working relationships.
+ Strong skills in organizing tasks and managing priorities efficiently.
Work Environment
This role involves primarily lab-based work within a food production environment. The work environment includes exposure to food allergens, temperature variations, and occasionally wet/slippery conditions. PPE is required as per company policy. The role includes an office setting and warehouse environment with a temperature range of 55 – 80 degrees. Training occurs on the 1st shift for 3 months, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, and the work schedule is Sunday-Thursday 4pm-12am.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, Tennessee.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $36.00/hr.
