    Job Description

    We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our Molecular-based Discovery group. The successful candidate will support microbial gene editing and gene discovery efforts, playing a vital role in advancing our research initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform day-to-day lab activities, including media preparation, microbe culturing, seed planting, and plant care within growth chambers.

    + Assist with CRISPR/Cas-mediated gene editing, including timely colony selection and transfer.

    + Perform nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extractions, PCR, and analyze products via gel electrophoresis.

    + Conduct disease bioassays, collect and analyze data, and report results to management.

    + Maintain clean, organized, and orderly laboratory spaces.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    + Record experimental data meticulously, follow lab protocols, manage workflows, and accurately collect, analyze, and report data in a timely manner.

    + Demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills with keen attention to detail.

    + Collaborate and work effectively within multicultural and interdisciplinary teams.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in biology, molecular biology, media preparation, data entry, and PCR techniques.

    + Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

    + Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + M.S. or B.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related field.

    + Hands-on laboratory benchwork experience, including working in a sterile, aseptic environment.

    + Experience with plant-microbe interactions, molecular discovery, and disease resistance concepts is highly desirable.

    + A passion for agriculture and biotechnology, combined with an eagerness to learn and a positive attitude.

    Work Environment

    The role involves working in a laboratory environment where maintaining cleanliness and organization is crucial. The successful candidate will work with advanced molecular biology techniques and equipment within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team setting.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, Iowa.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
